Bengaluru-based future of work platform TapChief that aims to empower a million professionals to earn viable incomes without a full-time job on Thursday announced that it has raised a pre-Series A round of $1.5 million from homegrown investment firm Blume Ventures

Sanjay Nath, Managing Partner of Blume Ventures, will be joining the Board of Directors of TapChief as part of this investment and said,

“Future of Work is a key pillar of our investment thesis with nearly 25 percent of organisations expected to have more than one-third of their workforce as independent professionals in the next decade. The fundamental concept of the workplace has evolved and at TapChief, a young team has been relentlessly building what we believe is a global proposition from India and we at Blume are proud to be early partners in this rocketship.”

This round follows an angel round of $650,000 from marquee investors like Paytm, Kunal Shah, Mekin Maheshwari, 500 Startups amongst others that the company announced in June of this year.

The platform, which enables professionals and companies to discover each other and work on short-term gigs and projects, said it will utilise this round of financing to further integrate their technology with existing enterprise people management systems, increase the network of professionals and enhance their average incomes on the platform

Founded in the hostel rooms of BITS Pilani in 2016 by Shashank Murali, Binay Krishna, and Arjun Krishna, TapChief today enables over 100,000+ professionals and firms to aggregate their personal brand online, learn from experts, and work with businesses on consultations and projects. These professionals have so far garnered $2 million in earnings across 25,000+ gigs.

The adoption for experienced talent on TapChief today is highest amongst technology, product, learning and development, and marketing teams, across industries like SaaS, ecommerce, FMCG, media, and education, the startup said in a statement.

Shashank Murali, Co-founder & CEO of TapChief, said,

"One in 5 professionals globally today are independent and this is expected to grow to 50 percent by the next decade. Our goal is to empower Indian professionals to have access to the widest selection of gigs in the fastest manner at the right income benchmarks. The opportunity to partner with the Blume team to take this to the next level is fascinating for us.”
