Sanjay Gupta, Country Head and Vice President, Google India, has been elevated to the role of president for the Asia Pacific region.

In his post on LinkedIn announcing the new role, Gupta said, “APAC isn’t just any region; it’s the heart of global growth and innovation, home to half the world’s population and poised to lead the tech revolution.”

He succeeds Scott Beaumont, the current president of Asia Pacific at Google, who will be retiring at the end of the year, after nearly 16 years with the company.

“Scott’s leadership and vision has already paved the way for Google’s investments in APAC. We grew our footprint around the region, invested in technical infrastructure, focused on skills development and partnered with the technical and scientific community in the region to support APAC’s prowess,” Gupta wrote.

“I am humbled and excited to build upon this incredible momentum,” he added.

Gupta began his tenure at Google in January 2020. Before joining Google, he served as the managing director at Star India for four years; he was also the chief operating officer of the company for seven years. Prior to this, he worked at Bharti Airtel and Hindustan Unilever.

The outgoing APAC President, Beaumont, who is passing the baton to his “friend and colleague” said, “Since our first meeting five years ago, I have seen Sanjay’s drive to think ambitiously about how technology can be a power for good in the development of his home country: India. He now has the opportunity to pursue that same calling more broadly across Asia Pacific.”

“I know Sanjay will do the position, his team and the company enormous credit and I look forward to supporting him in his early months,” Beaumont added, in a LinkedIn post.

According to Gupta, APAC has tech-savvy users, skilled human capital, a thriving developer and startup ecosystem, and governments that see artificial intelligence (AI) as a path to economic growth.

“I look forward to working with our talented team across the region to harness AI’s transformative power for APAC,” he said.
