Nasscom launches UK Forum to strengthen India-UK technology collaboration
The forum is intended to serve as a structured platform for dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge sharing between stakeholders from both nations, including governments, industry players, academia, and the broader technology ecosystem.
Nasscom on Thursday announced the launch of its UK Forum, an initiative aimed at strengthening the technology and trade partnership between India and the United Kingdom.
The forum is intended to serve as a structured platform for dialogue, collaboration, and knowledge sharing between stakeholders from both nations, including governments, industry players, academia, and the broader technology ecosystem.
The UK remains a critical market for India’s technology sector, ranking as the second-largest destination for Indian IT services, with annual revenues exceeding $90 billion. Bilateral trade between the two countries currently stands at around $56 billion, of which services trade accounts for $33 billion.
The recently negotiated India-UK Free Trade Agreement (FTA) aims to double this trade volume by 2030, highlighting the growing importance of technology-driven economic engagement.
The Nasscom UK Forum plans to play a pivotal role in advancing collaboration in emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI). The initiative aligns with the UK’s Technology Security Initiative (TSI) and seeks to leverage India’s experience in AI adoption and digital public infrastructure to enhance public service delivery in the UK.
Beyond AI, the forum will focus on enabling workforce upskilling, preparing businesses for digital transformation, especially small and medium enterprises, and fostering responsible technology practices that benefit both societies.
The forum brings together technology leaders from large Indian IT companies, including HCL Technologies, Hexaware, Infosys, LTIMindtree, Mastek, Tech Mahindra, TCS, and Wipro. It aims to serve as a multistakeholder platform to connect Indian and UK policymakers, corporate decision-makers, research institutions, think tanks, analysts, and the Indian diaspora, enabling coordinated efforts across policy, innovation, and industry development.
The launch event was held at the Indian High Commission in London and attended by Kanishka Narayan, Minister for AI and Online Safety, Government of the UK, along with senior government officials, industry leaders, and other stakeholders from across the India-UK technology corridor.
As part of the initiative, Nasscom also released a compendium titled 'Indian Tech Impacting the UK: Tech, R&D, and People Impact Stories'. The publication documents concrete examples of India’s technology industry contributing to the UK economy and society, highlighting areas such as talent development, innovation, research, and community engagement. It also underscores the ongoing commitment of both ecosystems to deepen technology partnerships and scale their impact in the years ahead.
Indian technology firms have had a long-standing presence in the UK, contributing to competitiveness, innovation, and employment across sectors. India is the second-largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI) into the UK, with over 1,197 Indian-owned companies operating in the country.
Additionally, more than 75 UK-based Global Capability Centres (GCCs) leverage India’s talent and scale to support innovation and drive competitiveness for their parent organisations. Conversely, major UK enterprises have also established substantial engineering and innovation hubs in India, co-developing global digital products and solutions.
The Nasscom UK Forum is therefore positioned not just as a platform for business networking but as a bridge for policy coordination, technology collaboration, and shared innovation, reflecting the deep and evolving relationship between India and the UK in the digital era.
