NSE, J&K Industries Department sign MoU to enable MSME access to capital markets
As part of the MoU, the NSE will conduct outreach initiatives, training workshops, and sessions focused on compliance and listing processes.
The Jammu & Kashmir Department of Industries and Commerce and the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE) on Monday entered into a memorandum of understanding aimed at expanding capital-market access for small and medium enterprises across the Union Territory. The MoU was signed at the Civil Secretariat in Jammu, with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah presiding over the ceremony.
As part of the MoU, the NSE will conduct outreach initiatives, training workshops, and sessions focused on compliance and listing processes. The Industries and Commerce Department will work through its district and regional offices to identify interested businesses and facilitate their participation.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah welcomed the development, calling it a meaningful step for local entrepreneurship. “This collaboration will help J&K MSMEs explore listing on NSE and NSE Emerge, strengthen entrepreneurship, boost investment, and support employment generation across the Union Territory,” he said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
The partnership comes at a time when MSMEs in Jammu & Kashmir, spanning traditional crafts, manufacturing, food processing, and service sectors, continue to face constraints in raising long-term capital. The agreement seeks to build a structured pathway for enterprises that may be eligible to list on NSE platforms, including its SME board, NSE Emerge.
The agreement aims to fits within the administration’s wider agenda of formalising the business ecosystem and encouraging investment. Recent industrial policies and support mechanisms introduced in J&K are aimed at broadening economic opportunities, of which improved financial market access is a key component.
Senior government and institutional representatives, including Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Dheeraj Gupta, Commissioner Secretary Industries and Commerce Vikramjit Singh, officials from JKEDI, and NSE delegates, were present during the signing.
