Amazon to expand AI tools for 15 million small businesses
Amazon plans to equip 15 million small businesses with AI tools and bring AI literacy to 4 million government-school students by 2030, expanding its $12.7 billion cloud and AI investments. It also introduced upgraded AI features for sellers and committed to scaling student learning programmes.
Amazon on Thursday outlined new plans to extend its artificial intelligence initiatives to small businesses and students across India by 2030, saying it will equip more than 15 million enterprises with AI-driven tools and bring AI literacy and career awareness to 4 million government-school students.
The company said the expansion supports the Government of India’s AI Mission and builds on its ongoing investment in cloud and AI infrastructure. Amazon said it is on track to invest $12.7 billion in its local cloud and AI operations by 2030, which it announced in 2023.
For small businesses, Amazon introduced upgraded AI capabilities across Seller Central, including a more advanced Seller Assistant that can analyse a seller’s store context, identify opportunities and automate routine tasks. The company also rolled out AI-powered listing creation, ad generation and video production tools designed to lower operational effort and help small sellers scale online.
The company also committed to expanding AI learning programmes for school students by 2030, including curriculum support, hands-on projects, teacher training and career exposure. The initiative targets government schools and aligns with the National Education Policy 2020.
The announcement comes as Amazon is separately scaling its India investments, including a recent plan to invest $233 million to expand its operations and fulfillment infrastructure amid intensifying competition in quick commerce.
Earlier this year, rival Flipkart also outlined aggressive expansion plans for 2025, including hiring 5,000 employees to support its quick commerce, AI and fintech businesses amid preparations for a potential IPO and a shift of its legal domicile to India.
