Tata, Intel sign MoU to build India-centred silicon and compute ecosystem
The partnership between Tata and Intel explores manufacturing, packaging, and AI compute enablement to bolster India’s semiconductor ecosystem
Tata Group and Intel Corporation have announced a strategic alliance to explore collaboration across consumer and enterprise hardware enablement and semiconductor and systems manufacturing, aimed at supporting India’s domestic semiconductor ecosystem and building a geo-resilient supply chain.
Under the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the companies intend to explore manufacturing and packaging of Intel products for local markets at Tata Electronics’ upcoming semiconductor fab and OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) facilities, alongside a collaboration for advanced packaging in India.

They also plan to assess opportunities to rapidly scale tailored AI PC solutions for consumers and enterprises in India, a market projected to be among the global top five by 2030. The partnership would combine Intel’s AI compute reference designs with Tata Electronics’ Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) capabilities and Tata Group companies’ market access.
N Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, said the alliance would accelerate the group’s efforts to develop a robust semiconductor industry in India and help capture the growing AI opportunity.
Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan said the collaboration offers a path to rapidly scale in one of the fastest-growing compute markets, driven by rising PC demand and AI adoption across India.
Tata Electronics, established in 2020, has emerging capabilities across EMS, OSAT, semiconductor foundry, and design services, with operations in Gujarat, Assam, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. Intel designs and manufactures advanced semiconductors that power modern computing.
Randhir Thakur, CEO & Managing Director, Tata Electronics, said, “This MoU aligns with Tata Electronics’ roadmap across EMS, OSAT, and Semiconductor Fab, enabling a reliable and resilient supply chain for our customers. This collaboration would drive cost competitiveness, faster time-to-market, greater operational agility, and enable Intel products to capture the surging demand for next-generation AI compute in India.”
