Inside a Jaunpur-based effort to produce affordable household cleaners
A Jaunpur-based entrepreneur sets up a small home-care manufacturing unit focused on affordable, everyday cleaning products for local households.
Shubham Yadav, a resident of Jagdishpur village of Jaunpur district, runs a small manufacturing unit producing everyday home-care cleaning products. His enterprise makes items such as handwash, toilet cleaner, glass cleaner, tile cleaner, and dishwashing liquid, all meant for routine household use.
The focus, he says, is on supplying basic cleaners at prices that local customers can afford, in a market otherwise dominated by costlier national brands.
Hailing from a farming family, Yadav has BCom degree and an LLB degree. In fact, he also practises as an advocate on a part-time basis.
After finishing his studies, he moved to Delhi in search of employment, attending several interviews, but steady work proved difficult to secure. Eventually, he returned to his home district and began looking for a business option that could be started locally and sustained over time.
Choosing a daily-use business
The idea of manufacturing cleaning products emerged from observing everyday consumption patterns. Yadav explains that household cleaners are items people cannot do without, regardless of income level or season.
“From washing hands to cleaning the bathroom and utensils, these are things used every day,” he says, noting that this consistency made the sector practical for a small, local operation.
Production involves sourcing raw materials, bottles, containers, and labels from larger markets, including Kanpur, followed by a chemical formulation process. While the exact composition is kept confidential, Yadav says each product goes through lab testing and is first used within his own household before being sold.
The unit currently supplies products across several tehsils of Jaunpur, including Mariahu, Shahganj, and Badlapur, and works mainly through small local sellers who distribute them further.
Yadav oversees marketing and overall management, while production and sales are handled by a small team. Around 8-10 people are involved across manufacturing, sales, and supply functions.
His brother, Mohammad Shahid, manages day-to-day operations as managing director, while another family member looks after production and sales coordination when Yadav is occupied with legal work or travel.
Support and early stability
Starting the business required capital that Yadav did not have access to on his own. Financial assistance came through the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Vikas Abhiyan (CM YUVA) Yojana, which enabled him to begin production and set up basic infrastructure.
Yadav described the scheme as a necessary support rather than the centre of the story. Beyond financing, officials from the district industries department have stayed in touch, reviewing progress and facilitating participation in local exhibitions where his products were displayed.
“The loan worked like a starting medicine for us,” he says, explaining that without it, manufacturing would not have been possible at this scale.
Today, the unit is still young, only a few months into regular operations, but it has brought a degree of financial steadiness and local employment.
For Yadav, the shift from uncertain job searches to running a modest manufacturing setup reflects a gradual move towards stability, rooted in familiar surroundings and everyday needs rather than ambition alone.
What is CM YUVA Scheme?
Under the leadership of Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath Ji, the state government aims to transform youth from job seekers into job creators.
To achieve this vision, the Directorate of Industries and Enterprise Promotion, under the Department of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises and Export Promotion, is implementing the ‘Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Vikas Abhiyan’ (CM YUVA) Yojana.
Under this scheme, young entrepreneurs are provided with up to Rs 5 lakh in 100% interest-free and collateral-free loans to start their industrial or service-based ventures. In addition, beneficiaries also receive a 10% margin money subsidy on the project cost.
CM YUVA is not just a financial assistance scheme; it also provides mentorship, guidance, market access, and essential resources to help youth become self-reliant entrepreneurs and generate employment opportunities for others.
