Captain Fresh raises Rs 290 Cr from impact investor Blue Earth Capital
Captain Fresh said it will use the debt funding to expand its distribution capabilities in global markets.
Captain Fresh, the Bengaluru-headquartered global packaged seafood company, has raised 27 million euros (approximately Rs 290 crore) in sustainability-linked financing from Blue Earth Capital, an impact investor headquartered in Switzerland.
The company said it will use the funding to expand Captain Fresh’s distribution capabilities in global markets. The company follows a B2B model, with its primary customers being distributors and retailers. In FY2025, it served nearly 1,300 customers across more than 30 countries, including the US, several European countries, the UAE, and India. It transacted in over 90 species of seafood, supported by a sourcing network of more than 650 suppliers across 35 countries.
"The investment in Captain Fresh reflects our continued commitment to the sustainable food and agriculture sector. Through our partnership, we look forward to promoting sustainably sourced seafood, reducing waste across the value chain, and driving job creation while meeting growing global demand for traceable seafood,” said Amy Wang, Head of Private Credit at BlueEarth.
According to Captain Fresh, around 15% of seafood globally is lost or wasted, largely due to inefficient processing and discards during harvesting caused by lack of standardisation and operational complexities.
Founded in 2020 by Utham Gowda, Captain Fresh is building a scaled, multi-species seafood brand with integrated value chains, underpinned by digital traceability. Some of the company’s seafood brands include CenSea, Frime, Koral, Senecrus, ChopServe, Ocean Edge, and Ocean Garden.
“We’ve always viewed doing things right as a core value multiplier, not an ESG checklist. By bringing true source-to-shelf traceability to the seafood industry, we are transforming a historically wasteful supply chain into one that actively protects our waters and uplifts communities whose lives depend on it,” said Utham Gowda, CMD & Group CEO, Captain Fresh.
Captain Fresh’s technology platform and vertical integration is aimed at reducing seafood waste and improving efficiency, enhancing margins across the value chain players. The company recently completed the acquisition of Spanish tuna processor company Frime.
