Amazon India to invest Rs 2,800 Cr to boost worker safety, expand logistics network

Amazon India said it will invest more than Rs 2,800 crore (about $300 million) in 2026 to strengthen associate safety, health, and financial well-being, while expanding its operations network across the country.

The planned investment comes as part of the company’s broader commitment to invest over $35 billion in India by 2030, with a focus on AI-led digitisation, export growth, and job creation.

The latest infusion will be directed toward scaling worker-focused initiatives such as Project Ashray, which provides rest facilities for delivery associates, and expanding healthcare access through nationwide medical camps. The company also plans to enhance accident and medical insurance coverage and widen access to government-backed social security schemes for its workforce and associated communities.

“At the heart of our operations network are our people,” said Abhinav Singh, Vice President of Operations for Amazon India and Australia. “This investment will help us raise the bar on safety, health, and financial well-being, while continuing to scale a fast and reliable delivery network.”

The move builds on Amazon’s Rs 2,000 crore investment in 2025, which funded the launch of 17 fulfillment centres, six sortation hubs, and 75 last-mile delivery stations. The company also introduced its quick commerce offering, Amazon Now, last year, which has since expanded to over 300 micro-fulfilment centres across major cities.

In 2026, Amazon plans to deepen that push by expanding its core and quick commerce footprint, enabling deliveries ranging from minutes to days. It also intends to more than double Amazon Now’s presence in existing cities and enter new markets.

Alongside physical infrastructure, the company is ramping up investments in artificial intelligence and machine learning tools to improve operational efficiency and safety. These include systems to monitor driving behaviour, optimise delivery routes, and ensure more equitable workload distribution among delivery partners.

Amazon said its worker-focused initiatives will align with national programmes such as Ayushman Bharat and the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, helping extend healthcare and financial inclusion benefits to tens of thousands of associates and more than 200,000 community members.

The company is also expanding programmes like Sushruta, which supports long-haul truck drivers and their families, and Pratidhi, a scholarship initiative for associates’ children.
