Fundamentum co-founder Ashish Kumar unveils Rs 2,000 Cr AI & deeptech fund
The AI and deeptech-focused fund, backed by Nandan Nilekani as anchor investor, will invest in startups operating across consumer, enterprise, and physical AI segments.
Fundamentum Partnership co-founder Ashish Kumar has announced the launch of Fundamentum Frontier Advisors (F2A), an AI and deeptech-focused investment platform targeting a corpus of Rs 2,000 crore to invest in consumer, enterprise, and physical AI startups.
The platform, which has secured SEBI approval, is backed by a mix of institutional and individual investors, with Nandan Nilekani coming on board as the anchor investor, according to a statement. F2A will also manage up to Rs 1,000 crore in parallel co-investments alongside the main fund.
“We are seeing a structural shift in how AI and DeepTech are being built and adopted across sectors. F2A is a continuation of our effort to partner with founders building enduring, technology-led businesses, with the same disciplined, long-term approach that has defined Fundamentum,” said Fundamentum co-founder Ashish Kumar.
Founded in 2017, Fundamentum is a growth-stage investment firm that backs technology-led companies operating in large and evolving markets. Its portfolio includes startups such as Spinny, Kuku, AppsForBharat, Wishlink, FarEye, Whizzo, and GenieMode.
Fundamentum also said that Debraj Banerjee will join F2A as General Partner to co-lead its AI and deeptech strategy. Banerjee brings nearly two decades of experience across venture capital, institutional finance, and technology-driven businesses, and most recently served as Senior Fund Manager and Investment Committee Member at SIDBI Venture Capital.
“We are at an inflection point where AI and DeepTech are moving from experimentation to scaled adoption across sectors. Having seen similar adoption cycles in more mature markets such as the US, across industries including utilities, BFSI, manufacturing and frontier technology, I believe India is poised to build globally relevant technology-led businesses over the next decade,” said Banerjee.
