Hello,
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman said Indian users have generated over 1 billion images using ChatGPT Images 2.0 since its launch, calling the engagement “awesome to see” in a post on X and highlighting strong AI adoption in the country.
Meanwhile, concerns about AI disrupting students’ career plans are growing across college campuses. Joseph Catrino, Director of Dartmouth’s Center for Career Design, said higher education must do more to prepare students for the workforce.
To that end, the Ivy League college has raised $30 million to fund internships, offering students up to $6,500 per term to support unpaid or underpaid opportunities. Other universities are also expanding internships, externships, and hands-on training to improve employability in a rapidly changing labour market.
In other news, US President Donald Trump said he should have secured a larger stake in chipmaker Intel, nine months after a deal gave the US government 9.9% ownership.
In an interview, Trump said he asked CEO Lip-Bu Tan for “10% ownership for free,” to which Tan reportedly agreed. Trump added, “I should have asked for more.” He also claimed Intel could be “the biggest company in the world” if tariffs had been used earlier to curb chip imports from China.
Meanwhile, Uber and South Korean tech giant Naver have formed a consortium to bid up to 8 trillion won ($5.34 billion) for Baedal Minjok, the country’s largest food delivery platform, according to a report. The group is targeting a full acquisition of Baemin from Germany’s Delivery Hero, the report said, citing investment banking sources.

The nurse who transformed healthcare in Lakshadweep

Nurse Hindumbi with her colleagues
At 80, Hindumbi Kaurom Kakkada works as a contract nurse at Indira Gandhi Hospital in Kavaratti, Lakshadweep. Across a 53-year career defined by discipline and dedication, she has supported over 20,000 surgeries and emergency cases in one of India’s most remote regions. A 2023 Florence Nightingale Award recipient, she is also a top 10 finalist for the 2026 Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award.
Key takeaways:
- Born in Kavaratti to a father who took part in the Dandi March, she pursued nursing despite long, difficult journeys for education and limited connectivity, eventually training at Kozhikode Medical College and returning home to serve her island community.
- Even after retirement at 60, she returned to work and continues an early, disciplined schedule, reporting to duty at 8 am daily and responding to emergencies at any hour, including nights and Sundays.
- Throughout her career, she has handled surgeries and emergencies in resource-limited settings—assisting operations during power cuts, managing island-to-island medical evacuations by boat, and responding to outbreaks, disasters, and pandemics.
