Neuranics Lab is building a blood count machine that runs by fingerprick
The Delhi-based company has developed MorphX, a point-of-care platform that claims to return a full blood count in minutes without needing a trained technician.
A complete blood count is among the most ordered tests in medicine, and in much of India it means sending a vial away and waiting. The machines that run it are expensive, imported and need a trained operator, so primary health centres and small clinics do not have them. A patient there gets the result the next day, if at all, by which time things might be too late in some cases.
was incorporated in Delhi in March 2021 to quicken that process. It was founded by Ashutosh Patra and Praveen Kumar, and its product is called MorphX. The company has been developed through a set of public research incubators, including Venture Center in Pune and the Atal Incubation Centre at the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology in Hyderabad.
The design brief is a machine that fits where the patient is. It takes a fingerprick sample rather than a drawn vial, returns a result in minutes rather than hours, and is meant to run without a skilled technician.
A laboratory on a cartridge
The sample goes into a microfluidic cartridge, a small plastic component with channels that handle preparation steps a laboratory would otherwise do by hand. Neuranics describes the platform as a lab-on-cartridge for that reason.
Analysis uses multi-spectral imaging combined with deep learning. Rather than counting cells by the electrical method conventional analysers use, the system photographs them across several wavelengths and interprets the images. The company says this covers more than 20 parameters, and extends to morphology, meaning the shapes and appearances of cells that a pathologist would examine under a microscope.
The claimed scope includes areas that are difficult for automated counters, among them low platelet counts, differential counts, malaria parasites, nucleated red blood cells and atypical cells. These descriptions come from the company and from a pathologist associated with it, and have not been independently published.
A clinical trial has been registered on India's Clinical Trials Registry to compare MorphX against an existing imported analyser. As of the record available, it was listed as not yet recruiting, so no results exist.
Funded quietly, and not yet at market
The funding record is unclear. Databases give three different totals for the company, ranging from $700,000 to $1.48 million across up to four rounds. The best-corroborated single event is a $700,000 seed round led by Inflection Point Ventures, announced in December 2024. The company said at the time that the money was for technology development and clinical validation.
Its backers include Inflection Point Ventures, the UK-India fund Pontaq, Venture Center in Pune, the Atal Incubation Centre at CCMB in Hyderabad, and an HDFC Parivartan grant, which is a corporate social responsibility programme rather than an investment.
The company employs somewhere between 17 and 21 people depending on which record is consulted, and no revenue, order or deployment figure is public. It has been raised from public research institutions and early-stage funds rather than from large venture investors, which is a common pattern for medical device companies that spend years in development before a first sale.
The device has been presented at a haematology conference, and a comparison trial is registered. Regulatory clearance and a first commercial deployment are the markers that would follow, and neither has been announced. For a diagnostic device, demonstrating performance against an established analyser is a key part of the evidence needed for regulatory review, alongside other validation and quality requirements
