Amazon India creates 1.6 lakh seasonal jobs ahead of festive season
The temporary jobs created by Amazon India includes both direct and indirect work opportunities across 400 cities in the country.
Ahead of the festive season, Amazon India said it has created more than 160,000 seasonal work opportunities across its pan-India operations network supporting its ecommerce and quick commerce businesses.
According to the company, the opportunities include direct and indirect roles across 400 cities, spanning major metros as well as Tier II and Tier III cities such as Varanasi, Kochi, Jalandhar, Ghaziabad, Ranchi, Salem, and Gorakhpur.
Amazon said the roles will also provide opportunities for thousands of women and associates with disabilities across its network. These workers will support various stages of order fulfilment, including picking, packing, shipping, and delivery. The company has already onboarded most of the seasonal workforce and begun providing the required training.
Amazon said seasonal workers will also have access to its safety, welfare, and benefits programmes. These include a safe and inclusive workplace, as well as safety, financial, and social security measures. Through its Samridhi programme, the company will also help associates joining its operations network enrol on the e-Shram portal and access government welfare and social security schemes.
Amazon recently launched Sammaan, a welfare programme for delivery associates in its logistics network. The initiative includes scholarships for associates’ children, support to access government benefits and financial inclusion programmes, insurance coverage, and on-road safety measures.
“This expanded workforce will help us strengthen our fulfillment and logistics capabilities and ensure we can handle the festive season seamlessly. Many of these associates continue their journey with Amazon beyond the festive period, while several others return year after year to work with us,” said Abhinav Singh, VP - Operations, Amazon India, APAC, Middle East, Africa and Turkiye.
Amazon India has over 1.7 million sellers on its platform with fulfillment centers spread across 15 states, offering over 43 million cubic feet of storage space for seller inventory. It has sortation centers in 19 states; along with a network of close to 2,000 Amazon-operated and partner delivery stations. Also, it has 28,000 'Hub delivery' partners and thousands of Amazon Flex partners.
