Four Indian startups selected for Google DeepMind Accelerator
These startups are part of Google’s Asia-Pacific accelerator programme which aims to address environmental challenges using artificial intelligence.
Google has announced that four Indian startups, Terrastack, Varaha Climate, Farmers for Forests and Climitra Carbon, have been selected for the inaugural Google DeepMind Accelerator: AI for the Planet (APAC). They join a cohort of 16 organisations from across Asia-Pacific working to address environmental challenges using artificial intelligence.
A statement from Google said that over the next three months, these organisations will receive access to the latest Google AI stack, tailored technical support, and expert mentorship to scale their critical solutions for a more sustainable future.
As startups, nonprofits, and researchers step up to build climate resilience across the region, this programme will help them advance their ideas using frontier AI models to tackle urgent environmental challenges, Gooble said.
The four Indian startups selected for the inaugural cohort are applying AI, satellite intelligence, remote sensing and drones to challenges ranging from sustainable agriculture and agroforestry to carbon removal and biodiversity.
Terrastack is combining satellite and agronomic data to provide plot-level land intelligence for smallholder farmers.
Varaha Climate is empowering smallholder farmers to earn carbon credits by verifying regenerative agriculture and carbon removal using remote sensing and AI.
Farmers for Forests is using AI-powered drones to turn smallholder agroforestry into measurable carbon and biodiversity action at scale, bringing technology to the measurement and monitoring needed to expand nature-based climate solutions.
Climitra Carbon is deploying Geo-AI to verify the removal of invasive species and their conversion into biochar, linking land restoration with scalable carbon solutions.
In addition to backing the local climate tech startup ecosystem, Google also announced four other major initiatives deploying artificial intelligence, geospatial data, and infrastructure investments to accelerate India’s clean energy transition. These include Scaling Solar API, Adding 150 MW of Clean Energy, Reducing Methane and Conserving Water and Expanding the Center for Climate Technology.
