JioHotstar expands into UK, Canada and Singapore
The international launch of JioHotstar will connect with the South Asian diaspora and also expand its global reach
Leading OTT platform JioHotstar has announced its entry into the international markets of United Kingdom, Canada and Singapore as it looks to connect with the South Asian diaspora and expand its global reach.
A statement from JioHotstar, said it would offer more than 160k hours of content across 12+ languages featuring multiple genres, personalised recommendations, and flexible subscription options, among others.
The offerings of JioHotsar will span across television, films, regional programming, non-fiction, kids and anime.
Amit Malhotra, Head – International Business, JioStar, said, “Streaming has spent the last decade competing on the size of its catalogue. We believe the bigger opportunity now is to reimagine how audiences experience entertainment; not just what they watch, but how they discover, engage with and shape the experience in real time. “
He continued, “South Asian audiences have a deep connection with Indian entertainment across languages, generations and households. At the same time, audiences globally are increasingly seeking stories and cultures beyond their own. We see an opportunity to build for this broader, underserved global audience - not simply export an Indian streaming service to new markets.”
JioHotstar is also introducing quarterly subscription plans across the three international markets, giving audiences a shorter-duration option to access the platform alongside annual plans.
The streaming company said it will kick off its international launch with a diverse line-up of entertainment spanning new originals, iconic franchises, and a vast television content offerings.
The company said the launch across UK, Canada and Singapore marks its next phase of its journey taking not just its entertainment catalogue, but also its product experience, technology, and vision for the future of streaming to audiences around the world.
JioHotStar India has an average monthly user base of 500 million with a library of more than 3 lakh hours of programming content in 19 languages, spanning movies, originals, live sports & events, anime, children’s entertainment, and TV shows from over 100 channels.
