Kepler Aerospace bags $8M to deploy swarming satellites
Bengaluru-based Kepler Aerospace will use the seed funding to deploy six swarming ISR satellites and expand its mission operations and avionics businesses.
Kepler Aerospace, a space infrastructure and mission operations company, has raised $8 million in a seed round led by Blue Ashva Capital and co-led by Finvolve India Accelerator and other investors.
The Bengaluru-based firm plans to use the capital primarily to deploy the first six satellites in its autonomous swarming intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance programme under India’s Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) initiative. It has secured two iDEX prime contracts and received about $4 million in grants under the programme.
The fresh funding will also support the expansion of its Mission Operations as a Service and Avionics as a Service businesses, as well as engineering capacity. Over the next 12 to 24 months, the company plans to move into a new facility and add 40 employees.
Kepler’s proposition goes beyond building satellites. It is developing an integrated stack covering satellite systems, avionics, ground infrastructure, mission operations and intelligence delivery.
According to the company, its mission operations platform already serves nearly all Indian space companies, and it operates several ISRO satellites. Its network of more than 70 ground stations provides communications, tracking, telemetry and command functions.
A swarming constellation allows multiple satellites to coordinate their activities, potentially reducing reliance on instructions from a ground station and shortening the time between collecting information and acting on it.
Founder and chief executive officer Navneet Singh said national security will increasingly depend on the ability to “see, understand and respond faster”, adding that achieving this requires satellites, avionics, ground systems and mission operations to function as one system.
Blue Ashva founder Satya Bansal noted that the company’s autonomous architecture could allow satellites to “task each other and act in orbit” without waiting for a ground station.
The fundraise comes as India’s private space industry broadens well beyond launch vehicles. Government data put cumulative private investment in the sector at $618.5 million by March 2026, while the number of registered spacetech startups had reached about 440 by August. Recent funding rounds includes Rs 100 crore by InspeCity, $60 million by unicorn Skyroot, and $20 million by Bellatrix.
Policy has also helped reshape the market, with India opening the sector to private participation in 2020, creating IN-SPACe as the authorising and supervisory body, and subsequently liberalising foreign investment rules for space activities.
The government has also established a Rs 1,000 crore space venture capital fund, alongside seed funding and technology-support programmes. The result is a shift towards a more active ecosystem that is heading towards commercialisation.
