Spacetech Pixxel raises $100M to build next-generation EO infra
Pixxel’s $100 million Series C, the largest funding round raised by an Indian spacetech company, will expand its satellite, software and manufacturing capabilities.
Bengaluru-based Earth observation company Pixxel has secured $100 million in a Series C round led by Singapore-based investment company Temasek and Seraphim, a specialist spacetech investor, marking the largest funding round raised by an Indian spacetech company.
New investors 360 ONE Asset and IMM Investment joined existing backers such as Radical Ventures and growX Ventures. The round takes Pixxel’s total funding to $195 million.
Pixxel said the new capital will be used to expand beyond its original focus on hyperspectral imaging, a technique that captures information across many wavelengths of light and can reveal characteristics of materials that ordinary satellite images may miss.
The company plans to broaden its sensing capabilities through the Honeybee constellation and high-resolution optical imaging satellites, develop Aurora, its Earth intelligence software platform, and expand sovereign Earth observation systems. It also intends to increase satellite production through Gigapixxel, a facility designed for high-rate manufacturing.
The development is significant because Pixxel is no longer positioning itself simply as a satellite imagery company. It started with hyperspectral satellites but now combines satellites, software and satellite systems for commercial and government missions. Aurora is intended to bring different datasets together and turn them into information that can support decisions.
“Years ago, we set out to build a health monitor for the planet,” founder and chief executive officer Awais Ahmed said. He described the latest investment as providing the scale to turn that idea into broader planetary infrastructure, with more forms of sensing and greater national capability.
Pixxel enters this phase after a series of operational and government-related milestones. It has deployed six Firefly satellites, which the company describes as the world’s highest-resolution commercial hyperspectral constellation, launched Aurora, secured contracts with NASA and the US National Reconnaissance Office, and won multiple iDEX challenges run by India’s Ministry of Defence. It has also been selected to lead India’s first public-private Earth observation constellation of 12 satellites under IN-SPACe.
The timing highlights a broader change in Indian spacetech. Government data show that private investment in the sector reached $618.5 million by March 2026, while around 440 space technology startups were registered in India. Tracxn data put total external funding at about $871 million across 241 rounds by July 2026.
Other companies have also attracted sizeable capital. Skyroot Aerospace raised $60 million in May and became India’s first SpaceTech unicorn, while Digantara raised $50 million in late 2025.
Last month, Thane-based firm InspeCity raised pre-Series A funding of Rs 100 crore. Government-backed financing is also becoming more important, with the Research, Development and Innovation Fund supporting several space companies, including Dhruva Space.
Policy has helped underpin this expansion as India’s 2024 FDI changes allow up to 100% foreign investment in several space activities, including satellite manufacturing and operation, subject to different automatic and government approval thresholds.
IN-SPACe has also created a public-private framework for Earth observation constellations, allowing private companies to design, build, own and operate such systems.
