Teradyne opens Bengaluru office to strengthen India's semiconductor ecosystem
Teradyne opens its first India office in Bengaluru as Karnataka strengthens its semiconductor design, manufacturing and testing ecosystem.
Bengaluru has added another global semiconductor player to its growing technology ecosystem.
Teradyne, a global provider of automated test equipment for semiconductors and electronics and advanced robotics systems, has opened its first dedicated office in India in Bengaluru.
The office at Bagmane Cosmos Tech Park was inaugurated by Karnataka Minister for Home, Information Technology, Biotechnology and E-Governance Priyank Kharge on September 15. Senior Teradyne executives, industry stakeholders and Dr Avinash Menon, IAS, Director, KIDS, were also present.
The new Bengaluru office will function as a local hub for customer engagement, applications support, training and strategic partnerships. It is expected to strengthen Teradyne’s engagement with India’s semiconductor and electronics ecosystem as the country expands its manufacturing, packaging and testing capabilities.
Teradyne looks to deepen local partnerships
Welcoming Teradyne’s decision to establish a permanent presence in Bengaluru, Kharge said the move reflects confidence in Karnataka’s technology ecosystem.
“Karnataka has always believed that government must create the environment for innovation to thrive,” Kharge said. He also pointed to the state’s 21 Centres of Excellence, which bring together industry, academia, startups and government to work on intellectual property and real-world problems.
Kharge said Karnataka wants Teradyne to collaborate with startups, institutions and Centres of Excellence, including on opportunities across the semiconductor supply chain.
He also highlighted the state’s approach of using government as an early customer for deployment-ready technologies.
“The Government of Karnataka is here to enable you to succeed. We also believe that government can be the first customer for innovation,” Kharge said.
He added that Teradyne’s first India office in Bengaluru was a “strong vote of confidence” in the ecosystem and said the state would work with the company to deepen the semiconductor sector and create new opportunities.
Bengaluru adds testing capabilities
Teradyne’s presence comes as India expands its semiconductor manufacturing, packaging and testing capabilities.
The company said the Bengaluru office will help it support the country’s growing base of chipmakers and electronics manufacturers while adding test and measurement capabilities to the semiconductor value chain.
It will also allow Teradyne to engage more closely with Karnataka’s ecosystem spanning semiconductor design, prototyping, fabless innovation, OSAT, advanced manufacturing and engineering talent.
Greg Smith, President and CEO of Teradyne, said the company sees India at an important stage in its semiconductor development.
“India is at an inflection point in its semiconductor journey and establishing a permanent office in Bengaluru reflects our long-term commitment to this market,” Smith said.
He added that as India increases investment in domestic fabrication, packaging and testing, Teradyne intends to work closely with customers, government partners and the wider ecosystem.
Teradyne develops advanced robotics systems and automated test equipment. Its semiconductor and electronics testing solutions cover the AI device supply chain from wafer to data centre, while its robotics business supports automation across manufacturing, logistics and data-centre operations.
The Bengaluru office gives the company a dedicated base to expand those activities as India builds out its semiconductor ecosystem.
