Lucknow University launches AI training for teachers
Lucknow University has announced a structured AI capacity-building programme for faculty members for the 2026-27 academic session.
Artificial intelligence is becoming an essential part of higher education, and Lucknow University is taking steps to ensure its teachers are ready for the shift. The university has announced a comprehensive AI capacity-building programme for faculty members and teachers from its affiliated colleges for the 2026-27 academic session.
The initiative is designed to help educators integrate AI into teaching, research, innovation and academic administration. Rather than replacing traditional teaching methods, the programme aims to equip faculty with practical skills that can improve classroom learning and streamline academic work.
Preparing teachers for AI-enabled education
The programme will be conducted under the theme, “AI-Enabled Higher Education: Empowering Faculty for Teaching, Research, Innovation and Academic Administration.”
According to the university, the initiative will include week-long faculty development programmes, five-day short-term courses, one-day and two-day hands-on workshops, AI boot camps, advanced certification programmes and master trainer modules.
The training will focus on practical applications of AI in higher education. Faculty members will learn about machine learning, generative AI, prompt engineering, AI-assisted research, digital content creation and learning analytics. These skills can help teachers prepare lessons, create study materials, analyse student learning patterns and support research projects more efficiently.
Hands-on training with popular AI tools
A key part of the programme is familiarising faculty with widely used AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Microsoft Copilot. These tools are increasingly being adopted in education to assist with drafting content, generating ideas, simplifying complex concepts, preparing assessments and improving academic writing.
The university has emphasised that the goal is to encourage responsible use of AI. Teachers will be trained to use these technologies as supportive tools that enhance teaching and research rather than replace educators or independent thinking.
Four-tier certification framework
Lucknow University spokesperson Mukul Srivastava said the programme will feature a four-tier certification framework to recognise different levels of AI expertise. The certifications will include Certified AI-Aware Teacher, Certified AI-Enabled Teacher, Certified AI Researcher and Certified AI Master Trainer.
As part of the assessment process, participants will develop AI-integrated lesson plans, digital learning resources, assessment frameworks, research proposals and teaching portfolios, giving them practical experience in applying AI within academic settings.
Centre for AI in higher education
To ensure AI adoption has a long-term impact, the university will establish a Centre for Artificial Intelligence in Higher Education under its Department of Computer Science. The centre will coordinate future AI training programmes and support the development of AI-enabled online courses through the university's Samarth Learning Management System.
The move reflects the growing role of AI across universities worldwide. By equipping teachers with practical digital skills, Lucknow University aims to create a stronger academic ecosystem that embraces technological innovation while preserving the core values of teaching, research and student learning.
