Asheesh Gupta is the Founder & Chief Care Officer, Samarth. Asheesh has worked for over a decade in leadership positions in operations, engineering, strategic consulting, general management and Institutionbuilding.
He graduated from IIT Kanpur in 1989, andstarted his career as an Engineer working in oil fields with Halliburton, one of the foremostenergy services companies in the world. Later, after receiving a management degree in 1994 from IIM Calcutta, he worked with McKinsey and Company, global consulting Firm, as a management consultant serving clients in India, Europe andMiddle‐east in multiple sectors including energy, infrastructure, technology, education, retail andentertainment.Later as President of Hero Mindmine, the private education venture of the Hero Group, Asheesh led it from a start‐up into a position of leadership developing a team of over 200 professionals,establishing international partnerships and nearly 100 learning centers across India between 2002 to2006.
In 2007 Asheesh co‐founded 9.9 Media, a unique media organization with a portfolio of print, online, and event properties built around consumer and professional communities. He personally led thedigital consumer media and later part of the B2B media portfolio of the Firm. Subsequently, Asheeshco‐created and led the Education business at 9.9 with the objective of helping transform the highereducation landscape in India and building world‐class institutions. He has directed the work at severalInstitutions which include: managing McKinsey’s global knowledge and research facilities based inIndia with over 600 professionals and helping establish McKinsey’s experiential learning capabilitycentre in India; He has been involved with establishing and advising higher education institutions inGujarat, Rajasthan, Haryana, Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh.
Passionate about enhancing the quality of life for independent senior citizens, in 2016 he cofounded Samarth (meaning “capable” in Hindi language), a professional venture in the elder carespace with the mission of helping the elderly enjoy a quality, independent life in Indian cities. Inrecognition of this work, he was invited by Cornell University to join the Cornell Institute forHealthy Futures as an Industry Scholar in 2018. He is a member of the CII task force on Eldercare since 2018.
