Manufacturer of sodium ion battery cells for energy storage applications.
Rechargion Energy is an Indian deep-tech battery technology company focused on developing sustainable, affordable, and high-performance energy storage solutions based primarily on sodium-ion (Na-ion) battery chemistry. A spin-off from CSIR–National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pune, the company is developing proprietary battery technologies as alternatives to conventional lithium-ion batteries, with the objective of reducing dependence on scarce and imported materials such as lithium, nickel, and cobalt. Rechargion's sodium-ion technology incorporates a proprietary hard-carbon anode and an aluminium-based current collector structure, offering advantages including improved thermal stability, faster charging, wider operating-temperature ranges, long cycle life, and safer transportation and storage. Its current product portfolio includes pouch-format Na-ion cells in different capacities, while the company is working toward scaled manufacturing and deployment. Its cells have also undergone ARAI validation testing against applicable IEC/BIS safety standards. The company's technology is targeted at electric mobility and stationary energy-storage applications, including electric two- and three-wheelers, renewable-energy storage, grid balancing, and microgrids. Rechargion is developing an end-to-end domestic battery ecosystem, from materials and cell technology to manufacturing, to strengthen India's energy-storage self-reliance. Through proprietary R&D, pilot-scale manufacturing, strategic partnerships, and technology commercialization, Rechargion aims to provide safer, greener, cost-effective, and scalable alternatives for the rapidly expanding global energy-storage market.
