Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella sees AI agents creating deeper impact in India

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella sees artificial intelligence (AI) driven agents creating a deeper impact in India, with the company’s Copilot platform adding newer capabilities soon.
At the Microsoft AI Tour meet in Bengaluru on Thursday, Nadella said there is great momentum in building numerous AI agents, and the Windows maker is finding deep applications across multiple industries and sectors.
Microsoft also announced partnerships with four India-based technology services companies—Cognizant, Infosys, TCS, and Wipro—with each deploying over 50,000 Copilot licences.
According to Microsoft, this collaboration will enable enterprises to enhance productivity, efficiency, and accessibility. These agents—which would autonomously take initiatives, drive decisions, and generate insights—are expected to create new growth avenues and competitiveness.
Microsoft India President Puneet Chandok said, “Cognizant, Infosys, TCS, and Wipro aren’t just embracing AI—they’re setting the global pace. These global enterprises are moving beyond experimentation to full-scale deployment, embedding Microsoft Copilot into the fabric of everyday work.”
These four companies have a long-standing partnership with Microsoft. Besides integrating Copilot across their several functions, they will also upskill their employees on the agentic platforms.
“These agents are now very much part of the Copilot experience. Today, there's great momentum in this country in terms of these applications getting deployed deeply,” Nadella said.
Microsoft CEO also remarked that the mindset shift, even for developers, will be important. “We need even a new way to think about the frontier of the classic SDLC (software development life cycle). [It] has to change to a new form of AI-driven SDLC,” he said.
Nadella said he was very impressed with the various projects coming out of India in the area of agentic AI, adding that India is slated to become the number one community in the world with GitHub by 2030.
The Microsoft CEO said the new capabilities coming into Copilot are leading to the next generation of metacognition, adding, “We are building out right here in India and around the world.”
On a closing note, Nadella said, “To me, at the end of the day, this is all about empowering every person and every organisation in India to be able to achieve more. And in that context, it starts with the human capital of this country being skilled, being confident that they can do things to achieve more, drive their organisation, their communities, their cities, and their states forward.”
