India emerges as global leader in GenAI adoption: Snowflake Study
Indian enterprises are deploying GenAI across multiple use cases as they have started to see measurable gains, says the study by Snowflake.
India has established itself as one of the world's top three generative AI (GenAI) markets, alongside the United States and Germany, according to a new global report released by Snowflake and Omdia by Informa TechTarget.
The study, titled "The ROI of Gen AI and Agents," surveyed 2,050 business and technology leaders across 10 countries. The findings paint a striking picture of India's AI momentum. About 71% of Indian respondents reported measurable returns from generative AI investments, well above the global average of 61%, while 42% of Indian of organisations are already deploying the technology across multiple use cases.
Indian enterprises are integrating generative AI across core functions at rates that consistently outpace global averages. Adoption in IT operations stands at 76% versus 61% globally, data analytics at 75% versus 57%, and cybersecurity at 69% compared to 52% worldwide. Software development and customer service also show significantly higher uptake.
The report highlights a particularly strong footprint in India's technology sector. About 71% of Indian respondents say their organisations use AI to generate code, compared to 64% globally, while 76% use it for code reviews and debugging.
Business outcomes are equally compelling. About 94% of Indian organisations report improved operational efficiency, 92% cite increased innovation, and 86% note stronger financial performance — all markedly higher than global averages.
Looking ahead, Indian enterprises plan to allocate 28% of their technology budgets to generative AI over the next 12 months, the highest share among all surveyed countries and ahead of the global average of 22%. Adoption of agentic AI is also accelerating, with 66% of Indian organisations already using or planning to implement such systems within the year.
"India is well-positioned to lead the next phase of enterprise AI innovation," said Vijayant Rai, Managing Director for India at Snowflake.
The survey was conducted between August and September 2025.
