Bengaluru has 15,000 active GCC leaders: Xpheno report

Bengaluru has cemented its position as India's premier destination for Global Capability Centres (GCCs), backed by a leadership pool of over 15,000 active professionals, according to a new workforce research report by specialist staffing firm Xpheno.
The report titled 'Bengaluru GCCs: The Leadership Quotient' assesses the city's GCC leadership landscape across four data dimensions: geographic, enterprise, sectoral & functional, and personal profile grouped under scale, sustainability, and stability.
On the scale front, Bengaluru's GCC ecosystem boasts an overall leadership density of 1:50, meaning one in every 50 professionals holds a leadership role. Mid and senior leadership densities stand at 1:85 and 1:180 respectively, indicating strong succession pipelines. The city's GCC leadership pool recorded 8% annual net growth over the past year.
The sustainability metrics paint a picture of a maturing ecosystem. Nearly 59% of leaders are concentrated in mid-operational layers, forming a strong execution backbone, while 28% occupy strategic decision-making roles. Women account for 24% of GCC leadership talent—the report describes this as growing but still under-optimised.
Stability indicators further strengthen Bengaluru's case. GCC leaders in the city report a median tenure of 6.5 years, reflecting strong organisational continuity. Over the last 12 months, 560 leaders moved into Bengaluru's GCC ecosystem against 390 who moved out, making the city net talent positive.
Sectoral concentration is notable: BFSI dominates with 80% of the leadership pool, followed by IT/ITeS at 11% and manufacturing at 4%. On the functional side, sales, finance, operations, HR, and IT together account for over 90% of all leadership roles.
Kamal Karanth, Co-founder of Xpheno, noted that cost arbitrage has given way to leadership quality as the primary driver for GCC investments. "Bengaluru's strong leadership quotient, backed by scale, experience, and global exposure, continues to make it the most preferred destination for global enterprises setting up capability centres," he said.
Founded in 2017, Xpheno has recruited over 34,000 niche tech professionals and supported more than 44 greenfield GCC setups in India over the last four years.
