All of us wants to become a leader - in one way or the other. Although the very thought of leading others is intimidating, the leader inside us wants to jump into the ocean of leadership.

What if I tell you, becoming a successful leader is no rocket science. To be a successful leader, you just have to do one thing. Yes. You read that right. No morning routines. No lifestyle changes. Nothing. Just start doing one thing. And that thing will help you become a leader you’ve always wanted to become. Start acting like a leader whenever and wherever possible. Thinking and acting like a true leader is the only way to become one.

Gone are the days when leadership was associated with fancy titles or designations only. Nowadays, leadership isn’t about your title, it’s about the impact that you bring to the life of others.

“Want to become a leader who gets things done? If yes, then stop using email to manage work and switch to ProofHub.”

Fake it till you make it

They say, “Imitation is the highest form of flattery”. And the words are hundred percent right. To become a successful leader, start talking, acting, and behaving like one. Make a list of two or three successful leaders, they can be famous public figures, your boss, or your dad for that matter. Now, observe everything about them. And become that individual. Literally.

Whenever you feel stuck in a situation, just think how ‘that’ successful leader would have handled that specific situation. And if you’re struggling with it, just fake it!

Imitation is not a bad word. In fact, if done right, it can help you become your best version provided you don’t forget to add a part of your personality to it.

Walk the talk

Always remember that it’s a personal choice to become a leader. When you could have easily chosen the path of mediocrity, you decided to take the path which demands more of you - at every step. Now, you have to walk the talk. Everytime.

A successful leader never shies away from doing what is expected of him. His words are always in perfect sync with his actions. He does exactly what he says.

So, if you wish to be a successful leader, it’s important to not just say you will do this and that but follow them with strong actions as well.

Act with integrity

Integrity is one of the top attributes of a great leader. It connotes a deep commitment to do the right thing, regardless of the circumstances. He is consistent, honest and morally correct.

Every human is born with a conscience. Choosing the right thing to do, irrespective of the consequence is the hallmark of a true leader.

Thus, to become a successful leader, live every second with the utmost integrity. By doing this, you will not only benefit the people you lead but also enjoy more peace in personal life.

Cooperate instead of dominating

To be a leader, you have to be empathic towards others. Treat a janitor with the same respect as you would treat a CEO. Many people imagine leaders bossing around or giving orders to the others. On the contrary, leaders co-operate instead of overpowering or dominating them. They believe in the power of unison as they know we cannot accomplish all that we need to do without working together.

Successful leaders put the needs of a team before their own. They go out of the way to shoulder other’s problems. They understand that life is tough at times but with little cooperation, things can be made easier for others.

The co-operative leaders understand that human relationships and loyal alliances are essential in living a rewarding and fulfilling life. So, invest more in relationships to be a successful leader.

Care for others

The best leaders always care more about the people than the end result. They are always appreciative, positive, and encouraging towards others. They genuinely care for others. They know how to communicate their vision to others for achieving common organizational goals, but also don’t forget to bring smiles on their faces when the pace of the work goes insane.

If it’s the end of the month and you know the team will be working late every day, show up with some snacks and music to boost their morale. If someone had a big win, be the first one to talk about what an amazing job he or she did.

By giving praise to a teammate, caring for them, or shouldering someone’s burden, you’re positioning yourself as a true leader.

Successful leadership is all about having the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make decisions, and the compassion to listen to others. The moment you start acting like one, you’re already a leader, with or without a title.
