As every detail of the couple’s attire, the guests in attendance, the dance, music, lavish arrangements, and decorations was chronicled on social media, there was one highlight from the event.

Akash Ambani and Shloka Mehta had an eco-friendly wedding.

Not only was the wedding venue a plastic-free zone, as the family avoided all single-use plastic and styrofoam products, but the wedding did not also use any glassware.

Instead, the Ambanis opted for CHUK’s biodegradable tableware made from sugarcane fiber that decompose in 60-90 days. CHUK claims it does not burn any fossil fuel to produce the tableware.

Ved Krishna, Vice Chairman and Strategy Head of Yash Papers, CHUK’s parent company, says, “Akash Ambani’s wedding will inspire many in the country to go green. We were also earlier associated with DeepVeer for their eco-friendly wedding reception. We are happy to be a part of such mass influencers in their drive to go green.”

The organisation claims it has reached 89 million people worldwide, and that it has saved 1,148 tons of plastic from ending up in landfills.

Eco-friendly weddings are slowly becoming a trend in India. Last year, when Bollywood actor Sonam Kapoor married businessman Anand Ahuja, the duo opted for an e-invite, making a green choice. When model-actor Milind Soman married his girlfriend Ankita, the couple planted a sapling for every guest who attended the wedding.

Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma and cricketer Virat Kohli gifted saplings with their wedding invites. Television actors Rubina Dilaik and Abhinav Shukla opted for an organic and biodegradable wedding card made of MDF and recyclable paper.
