Asha Kandara — a woman sweeper of Jodhpur Municipal Corporation — recently cleared the Rajasthan Administrative Service examination.

While Asha had always dreamt of becoming an IAS officer, she could not appear for the exam as she had crossed the age bar. Now, she will be joining the administrative services as a deputy collector.

According to The Week, Asha got married in 1997, but the marriage soon failed. She separated from her husband eight years ago and single-handedly raised her two children and managed to complete her graduation.

According to Financial Express, the 40-year-old appeared for the civil services exam in 2018. However, the results got delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and she was left with no choice but to find an alternate source of income to make ends meet.

She took up the job of a sweeper with the municipal corporation.

When the results were announced on July 13, all her handwork finally paid off.

While society consistently mocked her for being a single mother and for working as a sweeper, Asha turned this into her motivation. She strived to achieve all her goals proving that none of those things was a barrier to success.

“Though it was a tough journey and I suffered a lot, I now consider myself to be in a position where I wish to do something for the underprivileged and those subjected to injustice,” Asha told The Week

Asha is a true inspiration for many. She is a testament to the fact that no challenge is too big if you work with dedication and grit. Staying true to her name, she leaves many filled with hope.
