View Company ProfileBengaluru-based short-video entertainment platform, Chingari was founded in 2018 by Sumit Ghosh, Biswatma Nayak, Aditya Kothari and Siddharth Gautam. It has since become a global app that is available in 174 countries.
Similar to other applications such as TikTok and Moj, Chingari allows its users to create videos with lip-sync, dances, voice overs etc. These range between 15 to 45 seconds where the creators can participate and generate engaging content.
Catering to the diverse linguistic culture, the app features over 15 languages that users can interact with. In 2020, the app was rebranded and redesigned. According to ANI News, Chingari clocked a revenue of $10 million in 2022-23.
The company which kickstarted as a WhatsApp status creation platform, soon ventured into video creation, Web3 wallet etc. Especially since the ban of TikTok, it saw an increase in its user base. It has also expanded to audio rooms and live one-on-one features.
In May 2023, one of the co-founders Aditya Kothari exited the company. This, according to him, was a result of a difference in the vision of the company, the style of leadership, and the company culture.
According to the company’s website, it has over 175 million users and was awarded India’s #1 Social Networking App in this “App Innovation Challenge #AtmaNirbharBharat”.
The major investors in the company include Republic Capital, Village Global, Astarc Ventures, and Aptos.
