A journey through City of Dreams Sri Lanka, Colombo’s newest luxury destination
City of Dreams Sri Lanka is more than an integrated resort—it’s a vibrant fusion of art, heritage, world-class hospitality, and entertainment, redefining luxury in South Asia.
Colombo’s skyline now boasts a striking new landmark—the City of Dreams Sri Lanka. Rising against the backdrop of the Indian Ocean, this $1.2-billion integrated resort is a new benchmark for luxury in South Asia.
City of Dreams Sri Lanka is more than just a place to stay in. It is a destination for every kind of traveller—whether you want a lavish getaway, world-class dining, casino thrills, or simply wish to savour Sri Lanka’s warmth and culture.
Designed by world-renowned architect Cecil Balmond and developed by John Keells Group and Melco Resorts, City of Dreams blends art, architecture, and hospitality.
From stunning ocean views and rooftop sunsets to bustling restaurants and serene spas and pools, every space is crafted to draw you in.
As you step inside the hotel, you are greeted by high ceilings, curated art installations, and warm lighting.
Even the smallest details, from the weave of the carpets to the way light filters through angled glass, suggest you have arrived somewhere extraordinary—as you drift towards the infinity pool, stroll through airy corridors that double as art galleries, or simply enjoy the ocean from your private balcony.
First glimpses of grandeur
Nestled in the heart of Colombo, City of Dreams is hard to miss—its striking towers defining the city’s skyline.
From the outside, it’s all glass and grandeur. Once you step inside, you find a mix of Sri Lankan heritage motifs and modern luxury. The property features over 1,000 curated artworks, including paintings and sculptures, transforming each corridor and lobby into an immersive gallery.
The integrated complex has two distinct accommodations—Cinnamon Life and Nüwa Hotel. Cinnamon Life, which opened late last year, has around 680 rooms and offers a vibrant city view, while the newly-launched Nüwa Hotel houses 113 ultra-luxury rooms and suites on the upper floors with panoramic views of the Indian Ocean.

Both properties share the same service and design philosophy, yet each has its own distinct personality. Cinnamon Life buzzes with urban sophistication, and Nüwa is a high-altitude retreat for those who prefer privacy wrapped in opulence.
With so much to experience inside the complex, from dining and shopping to spa indulgences, it’s easy to spend an entire vacation here without ever stepping outside.
The design
Design is the heart of City of Dreams Sri Lanka. Creative director James Balmond from Balmond Studio describes the design as a mix of modern architecture with hints of Sri Lanka’s textures, motifs, and styles.

As you enter the lobby, familiar elements give way to the unexpected. Here, light becomes the design element, shifting across angled walls and textured surfaces.
Balmond explains that the ocean view was intentionally framed in key spaces. While one side of the hotel opens to Colombo’s streets, the other reveals the endless blue ocean.
It’s here that the building reveals itself as more than architecture. It’s a choreography of space, light, and perspective—an experience as much as a destination.
And just as the architecture carries you on a visual journey, the dining options take you on a global culinary expedition.
Wine and Dine
At City of Dreams, your taste buds can travel the world in a single day. With nearly 17 restaurants and bars, every meal feels like its own little journey, whether it’s fine dining inspired by Michelin-starred chefs, casual comfort food, or sunset cocktails with a view.
Quezine, the multi-cuisine restaurant, offers a culinary voyage—from fragrant Sri Lankan hoppers to creamy Italian pasta, fiery curries to delicate sushi rolls and dim sums—delicious flavours that blend beautifully.
For a taste of the Far East, Sapphire Dragon showcases authentic flavours of Cantonese cuisine with a contemporary flair, with hot soups, perfectly balanced sauces, and teas infused with tradition.

At Indiya, the flavours of India come alive through authentic regional dishes layered with handcrafted spices, each bite steeped in heritage. Then there’s Yoroko, where the centuries-old Japanese art of Robatayaki is reimagined with modern elegance in serene Japanese surroundings.
As night falls, the resort’s rooftops transform into open-air venues for sunset viewing. But the visitors’ favourite is Flux, the rooftop bar on the 24th floor. It’s the kind of place where you linger long after your glass is empty—watching the skyline against the backdrop of the Indian Ocean.
First-time thrills
City of Dreams Sri Lanka’s casino reigns as the crown jewel of this dazzling complex. The moment you enter, the atmosphere hums with quiet excitement. Players can be seen leaning around the tables, their focused eyes revealing a mix of strategy and hope.

Though access to the casino is reserved for members, lucky visitors can secure a glimpse with a guided tour, offering a peek into a world where sleek design meets international standards for responsible gaming.
Strategically located in central Colombo, City of Dreams Sri Lanka attracts visitors from markets like India, China, the Middle East, and Russia. The goal? To position Sri Lanka as the next powerhouse in gaming tourism in the region.
But the excitement does not end at the casino.
Adjacent to it, a luxury shopping mall tempts visitors with glossy storefronts showcasing international designer brands alongside local fragrance, beauty labels, jewellery, and gemstones.
Here, the stakes are different—risk gives way to indulgence, and the thrill comes from splurging on fashion rather than placing a bet.
Colombo in a capsule
Colombo is compact yet full of layers, a city where you can move from busy markets to tranquil temples in the span of an afternoon.
In many ways, City of Dreams mirrors that same balance. Within the complex, you’ll find the sophistication of high-end dining, the thrill of live entertainment, the glamour of world-class events, and the comfort of impeccable hospitality. It’s a microcosm of Colombo itself—diverse, dynamic, and always ready to surprise.
Whether you come for the flavours, the views, the nightlife, or simply to step into a world that feels larger than life, this is a place that delivers.
If you are a traveller seeking a slice of Las Vegas-style glamour wrapped in Sri Lankan warmth, City of Dreams should be at the top of your Colombo itinerary.
