Taj Resort and Convention Centre, Goa: A hillside beach resort in the lap of luxury
If in Goa, make sure to visit this luxury beach resort that is perched on a hillside and offers stunning views of the Arabian Sea.
Over the last two years, my social media feeds have been inundated with posts on Goa. With new hotels, restaurants, and watering roles, Goa 2.0 seemed worth a visit – it looked far more hip and happening now. On a whim, I packed my bags and set out on a trip, one that left me surprised and how!
The credit also goes to the charming properties where I stayed, particularly the Taj Resort and Convention Centre (TRCC) in Panjim. I had imagined it to be another luxurious property, but with its unrivalled location it was so much more. Perched on a forested hillside with expansive views of the Arabian Sea, the 299-room resort is nothing short of a dreamland.
It’s bigger and bolder, representing the new Goa that’s not afraid of experimenting. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that it offers you calm and quietude.
The contemporary property is set within a large complex that also houses Cidade de Goa, now a part of the IHCL SeleQtions portfolio. Designed by legendary architect Charles Correa, the Portuguese hamlet with a Mediterranean influence is a must-visit if you want to experience Goa of the yesteryears.
Striking décor elements
TRCC, Goa, is uber-contemporary in design–much attention has been paid to integrating modern décor elements in the common spaces or the rooms. As you make your way to the resort complex, your eyes are likely to first notice the vertical gardens and the elegant fountains.
But set afoot inside its precincts and the vastness of the Arabian Sea will greet you! It was quite a moment for me – it’s almost as if all my worries evaporated as I glanced at the sea in all its glory.
There are certain other elements that are highly impressive. A suspended boat’s hull is an intentional addition, as revealed by the staff at the property – it’s as if the boldness of Goa stares back at you.
It’s impossible to write about TRCC, Goa, without speaking about its convention centre, and, as the staff says, “its centrepiece”. Lorded over by a 1,200 square feet pillarless hall, six breakaway spaces, an exclusive entrance, and a range of recreational options, the scale is unimaginable.
Luxurious accommodation
TRCC is huge – it has 282 rooms and 17 themed suites. We stayed in the deluxe room that affords stunning views of the sea – and I sat by the large glass pane for hours, lost in a world of my own. It was magical!
But before I go on and on about how stunning it was, I must add that the IHCL Group always takes their hospitality a notch higher. As I entered the room, I spotted a chocolate rendering of my image on a pretty porcelain plate, lined with delicious macarons. A grand welcome, if I must say.
On to the details. The sprawling 40 square metre space was stunning. I lay on the fluffy bed and relaxed for hours. Of course, the gorgeous azure blue waters gave me the best company. What I particularly loved is the special attention to colours in the room – they are warm and striking, not loud in any way. Dotted with visually appealing artwork, it’s the perfect space to unwind and relax, away from the humdrum of city life.
The huge bathroom is equally stylish – my personal favourite was their bathtub. I thoroughly enjoyed a bubble bath, while sipping on a glass of bubbly. Ah, heaven!
Dining at its best
How can you possibly enjoy a getaway without some delicious food? I am obsessed with seafood, so I had to visit their specialty restaurant, C2C (Coast to Coast). Interestingly, the design is in line with the theme – shimmering sands, turquoise waters, and breathtaking landscapes are beautifully woven into its décor. The fisherman’s net sprawling across the elegant dining space is stunning, while the tiles that represent sparkling seashells take you by surprise.
You could choose to sit within the indoor dining space or have a delicious coastal meal by the sea. Take your pick from the different coasts and dig in. One of my favourites here remains the Russian King Crab, covered in a chilli coriander butter glaze. The sweet-sour flavours remain unforgettable. We also tried the Baked Sea Bass and the Lobster Thermidor with a mustard glaze. And how can I forget the Lobster Ravioli that had a hint of fennel? Interesting ingredients and a superior taste.
Their menu is vast; so if you think there’s something else that caters to your palate, go for it. Don’t forget to pair your meals with their eclectic range of tipples. I tried the Susegad, which had gin, vermouth and campari.
Our meal ended with a choice of unique desserts. I am a die-hard fan of pineapple, but never thought grilled pineapple could taste so delicious. The chef told me the secret – the fruit is marinated overnight in rum, demerara sugar, and orange juice, and is then served with a light vanilla gelato. The Moelleux Au Chocolat was indulgent and had citrusy notes.
I also savoured a few meals at BLD, their multi-cuisine restaurant – find a spot on their alfresco terrace to have a good time.
An unforgettable experience
My trip to Goa was a little short (duty calls), but I am glad I chose to spend my time here. A special mention to the Jiva Spa, which is the perfect spot to soothe your aching body. I was so rejuvenated post the session that I crashed right after!
All in all, an experience at TRCC, Goa, can’t really be described in words – you have to see it to believe it!
