Techvista2010, Microsoft Research India's annual research symposium held

January 22nd saw the best minds from industry and academia coming together at the Leela Kempinski Palace hotel in Bangalore where Techvista2010, Microsoft Research India's annual research symposium was held. This also marked the 5th anniversary of Microsoft Research India one of eight such centers worldwide which is at the forefront of computer science research.

The morning session from 9AM to 2:30 PM saw talks by Dr. Richard F. Rashid, Senior Vice President, Microsoft Research, Prof. Adi Shamir, The Paul and Marlene Borman Professor of Applied Mathematics, Weizmann Institute of Science, Dr. P. Anandan, Managing Director, Microsoft Research India and a panel discussion on "The Future of Computing" with Turing award recipients Prof. Barbara Liskov, Sir Tony Hoare, and Dr. Butler Lampson, Dr. Tony Hey.

The noon session had some very interesting technical talks on emerging topics like:

  • Exploring New Horizons of Computing with Microsoft Research Asia by Dr. Hsiao-Wuen Hon, Managing Director, Microsoft Research Asia.
  • Managing Structured Data: What’s New? By Dr. Surajit Chaudhuri, Research Area Manager, Data Management, Exploration and Mining group, Microsoft Research.
  • Verification, Testing, and Statistics by Dr. Sriram Rajamani, Assistant Managing Director, Microsoft Research India.
  • Embracing Uncertainty: The New Machine Intelligence by Dr. Christopher M. Bishop, Chief Research Scientist, Microsoft Research Cambridge, and Professor of Computer Science at the University of Edinburgh, Fellow of Darwin College Cambridge.

There was also a demo of cutting edge applications from the different Microsoft Research labs worldwide and Ph.D. poster session where Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Ph.D. students from India selected through a competitive process presented posters on their research work.
