OSScamps are India’s premier FOSS Unconference (details: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unconference) – an informal/casual event where the emphasis is put on participative and collaborative knowledge sharing over the traditional one-way sharing model. They are organised on the format of BarCamps but are more unstructured and force people to get creative with the time they spend at a camp.
OSScamp Chandigarh April 2010 is the second event being organised by the open source community in Chandigarh. It is going to be a grand open source event in the city of Chandigarh, giving a much needed thrust to the open source community there. The initiative to organise the camp was taken by two 14 years old school students, who were assisted by the tech club of Chitkara University - CUclanTE.
The open source community, then, came forward to work with them and promote the cause. Currently, the event has more than 200 potential participants and a range of almost 20 sessions on various open source technology topics.
A wide range of sessions have been listed for the camp, with a special emphasis on running and contributing to FOSS Projects. There is also an unpanel on InfraTalk and a couple of Social Sandboxes on FOSS Projects and the Cult of Geek. Another aspect being focused on is Databases with Sessions on MySQL, NoSQL, and YQL. Facebook API, Twitter API, Moodle, Mashups, OpenStreetMaps, RIA are other topics worth highlighting. You can see a list of some registered sessions on the event page.
The event is being sponsored by Chitkara University, CuclanTE, GrayCell Technologies, OSSCube, l'Agile Labs, Net Solutions, Linux for You and the What I Say! Blog.
