Pondicherry Multipurpose Social Service Society (PMSSS) in partnership with NASSCOM Foundation and Accenture has launched a BPO Training Centre for the under-served, under-privileged youth for the first time in Pondicherry.
Due to the tremendous growth of the IT-BPO industry in India as well as the current focus of integrating IT and ICT in all spheres of development, computer literacy and IT skills has become a key to employment in urban areas.India has been a growing hub for the BPO industry for more than a decade now and in recent years the industry has expanded to newer locations building a base in Tier II and Tier III Cities. IT-BPO companies have already set up operations in Chennai, Salem, Coimbatore and other locations. Pondicherry as a preferred destination is also not far behind. Thus Pondicherry is a natural choice for a BPO-training centre for youths from rural and peri-urban areas to make them suitable with employability skills for new jobs in BPOs.
Dr. Reddy's Foundation (DRF), Hyderabad and Accenture had trained master trainers from PMSSS. With NASSCOM Foundation's support, PMSSS is launching the first training centre in Pondicherry where training will include BPO proficiency, life skills, communication and computer skills. The duration of the course is for three months. The trained candidates will be given placement by NASSCOM Foundation and its partners. Awareness on this program will be created in rural and coastal villages of operational areas of PMSSS and the youth will be selected from the poor and marginalized background.
PMSSS has been a partner to NASSCOM Foundation to educate and to give employment opportunities to the rural youth through the NASSCOM Knowledge Network programme where skills training are provided to rural youth covering IT training under the Microsoft Unlimited potential curriculum. A batch of 60 students who completed the Microsoft Unlimited Potential Program were provided certificates at the inauguration.
