Vision/Guideline for 2011 –less time, low cost and more efficient hiring“Campus Recruitment of the Future”
A student pins many hopes and dreams on their first job which mostly comes through campus recruitment. These students and their outlook have changed radically with global exposure and culture permeating Indian campuses but campus recruitment remains in the Stone Age. Young entrepreneur Amritanshu Vaish believes that it is time that Campus recruitment in India caught up with the rest of the world with his aid. His Entrepreneurial venture “Campuswala Recruitment Inc” is a harbinger of the changes that technology will bring to small businesses and large alike.
How does Campuswala bridge the gap between online expectations and offline reality?
Campuswala is an Offline and online platform connecting hiring consultants’ colleges and companies and a brain child of Amritanshu Vaish, Dr Arun Subramanian and some other fresh minds. In the past five years the number of engineering colleges in India has doubled making it difficult for companies to shortlist colleges. The way to solve is through the internet. Campuswala helps colleges and consultants to get online where all its students can be visible to a lot of companies and also make it easier for companies to reach you with a minimal cost.
What is new with the way Campuswala is hiring? Does it benefit more students?
While students have changed in the last ten years, campus hiring has remained unchanged. We believe now it is possible for a firm to stay connected to a college and student 24 by 7 through technologies, engage and then hire as and when required.
We help the colleges manage and increase placements. Our technology makes it easier, faster and cheaper for students and employers we have collected relevant articles from field experts and also developed online tests in verbal, aptitude and reasoning. You would also be able to find a lot of information on internships, jobs and companiesWhat did Campuswala have to do to gain acceptance on campuses?
The biggest test for them initially was changing the mindset of how the campus operates; colleges would rather use the offline process of literally meeting companies using only brochures and communication with students through phone or email even though it is very inefficient. Campuswala can invite companies and consultants to see their campus and students and at the same time communicate and take response from students very easily.
Why do you believe that working for yourself is better than a 9-to-5 job?
“Actually no jobs today are 9-to-5. They are all 9-to-8 or even 10. At least mine was because of marketing profession. So why not work hard for yourself instead? But the key reason was that I kept on getting ideas which I believed would work, so you don’t want to end up being 40 and think, I could have done this and that. I want to be 25and doing it!!”
The zest to be involved in the every aspect of the business, from concept, design, creation, sales, operation and execution was one of the key reasons!!”
What did your experiences as an amateur entrepreneur teach you?
I wasted a lot of time initially waiting for ‘things to happen’ Even though I read a lot about how networking is very important when you start a new venture, it was lacking in my approach. I thought people would eventually find out & contact me whereas it is completely the opposite. You have to go out & present your idea to the world. What experiences led to the entrepreneurial beliefs that you have today?
The passion to do something different on our own was always there. We even thought about launching a company selling “sabzi” or any other product. But I got a job on a sales team in a reputed tour and travels event management firm and worked for one year. During an interaction with my boss, I realized that many companies are finding it tough to connect efficiently.
Although many students have access to the Internet and mobile, campus hiring has not changed. Many students in Tier-2 cities lose out on good employment opportunities as they cannot connect with the right companies. Companies still spend a lot of time, money and energy on hiring and yet do not find the right candidates. "I discussed this with my friend Megha Dubey, Vivek Singh, Gaurav Upadhyaya and Aditya Kumar a young be and business graduates. They were also excited about the idea to use .technology to drive efficiency in new recruitment model”.
Believe in yourself, believe in your idea. Be open to suggestions, criticism & praise so as to recognize feasibility of change if required in your concept otherwise keep moving ahead. Networking is the key! There are many forums online as well as associations meeting on and off discussing entrepreneurship and ideas. Attend these & know where you stand. Don’t be afraid to express yourself. You’re here not because you’re one of them but because there’s something different you got to offer.
Yourstory thanks Campuswala and Amritanshu for telling our readers their story. We wish them success with their venture and hope to see their business model dominate more Indian campuses.
