What happens when you take young creative entrepreneurs from one of the world’s fastest growing economies and lead them into opportunities to experience and work in a country that has the largest creative industries sector in the world? Sparks are set to fly. Seven young entrepreneurs from India across the sectors of Design, Music, Fashion, Communication, Visual Arts, Screen, Interactive, Performing Arts and Publishing recently competed with their peers and emerged award winners at the Young Creative Entrepreneur (YCE) Awards ceremony in Delhi. They are Anup Tapadia, the founder of TechnoKarma Labs & TouchMagix Media (YCE Interactive); Yugandhar Tammareddy, Founder, Pixelloid Computer Services (YCE Screen); Sandeep Maheshwari, owner of Mash Audio Visuals Ltd (YCE Communications); Preksha Baid, Director of Y-walls Design (YCE Design); Magesh Kumar Gurumurthy, Co-founder, IndianStage (YCE Performing Arts), Leonard Fernandes, Co-Founder, Cinnamon Teal Publishing (YCE Publishing), Sanjay Garg, Owner, Raw Mango (YCE Fashion).
The winners will now be given an opportunity to gain a foothold in the strong creative economy of UK and build relationships to promote their creative ventures in the UK.
A showcase of works by erstwhile entrepreneurs at the ceremony helped illustrate the programme’s larger cultural impact. YCE Fashion awardee Varun Sardana’s preview of his Spring / Summer 2011 collection was the highlight of the evening. It was the first time in India a designer presented his Spring/Summer collection in a venue other than the Fashion Week. Known for his innovative approach to fashion, Varun’s shows are well known for its use of drama and novel presentation. Varun was recently signed up by Blow PR, a fashion PR agency based in the UK after he participated at the Alchemy Festival in London early April.
