Celebrating the spirit of entrepreneurship even under limitationsBorn and brought up in Bhopal, Anita Guruprasad was always a go-getter. At a time when very few women ventured out of home for further studies, Anita went on to not only complete her graduation but also finished her post graduation and did a PhD in Life Sciences. She later got married to her colleague and settled in Indore. Her life took a sharp turn suddenly and just a day prior to her due date she experienced severe headache. Her Gynecologist suggested a C-section delivery since she sensed that Anita as well as the baby both their lives were in danger. The operation turned out to be successful and a healthy baby boy was delivered, but Anita lay unconscious the next 3 days. Only on the fourth day when her parents and husband insisted that she should be examined by an expert doctor, did they realize that she had slipped into comma due to a condition called Corticothromboflavoitis. Her lower limbs were completely immobile and she lay unconscious for the next 10 days. On the 11th day when she regained her consciousness she had no memory of what had happened.
YourStory: Please tell us about yourself and Cyber Nomads
I am a very straightforward and honest person. I do not get daunted by seemingly tough situations and am always prepared for anything that life chooses to offer me, with a smile. Normally I am a no-complaining person who believes anything is possible if you have the will to do it, and is prepared to walk that extra mile for it.
I am the proprietor of an SME - Cyber Nomads (http://www.cyber-nomads.com/),which deals in Telecommunication Training Products for Engineering & technical Colleges and Universities. We are Authorised Agents of 5-6 Foreign firms which deal in similar products, for marketing their products in India. We also export similar equipment from Indian & Foreign Companies to all parts of the World. Being a businesswoman in a male dominated field is not easy but very enjoyable!
YourStory: Challenges faced in your business and how do you over come that
My personal challenges I can overcome with self-motivation but there are the following challenges, which if I have to overcome need the support of others. Most common challenge, if you are into business is making money available to fulfill your dream vision! To have money to invest, at the right time and for the right thing is a dream not every business person can afford....
The field I am in is highly competitive and thoroughly professional. If I can’t keep myself updated with the latest technologies in this field, keep abreast of the latest training equipments that are coming up for these technologies, so that the students get to learn them and are on an equal footing with their foreign counterparts, then my being in this biz is futile. So the main challenge I face is to keep myself and my Co-workers abreast of all the recent happenings in the Telecommunications technologies word-wide.
The other challenge and I suppose the biggest challenge is to make available these training equipments to the Indian customer (Engg. Colleges) which indirectly translates into the Indian Engineering Student at a reasonable and affordable cost. This is due to the fact that most of the Engineering Colleges have no or negligible funds for them to buy these equipments. The result is that the students do not get to do any experiments and are do not have exposure to good instruments in their respective fields. (I am talking about the general state of Engg. Colleges)
YourStory: How does it feel to be the winner of Dr.Batra's Positive Health Award?
There is only one phrase that can describe this feeling: TOP OF THE WORLD!
YourStory: Do you think an Award like this makes a difference? Has it impacted you in some way?
Yes, it does make a difference...not only does it motivate a person but builds and re-inforces their belief in themselves. It gives them the much needed energy to keep up the struggles and not give up hope. The difference it has made for me is that I am a renewed person. All these years I have struggled to keep going, literally, this has renewed my vigour, my zest for life...and it would not be wrong to say that this recognition has also given me a direction, a cause to build my life for others from this point onwards. Especially after I watched enthralled the performance of the Happy Home children and others...those children have inspired me. I know there are similar children here in my surroundings, and maybe, some day, which I feel is very near, I will do something on these lines...these are not mere words...
YourStory: Any message for the our readers
For others in a similar situation I would like to say only one thing: NEVER LOSE HOPE, HAVE FAITH IN YOURSELF AND YOUR CAPABILITIES, BE HONESTLY POSITIVE & THINGS WILL HAPPEN!!!!
Dr.Anita is an inspiration, through her grit and determination she has turned every challenge into an opportunity. We at YourStory salute her spirit and hope she wins many more laurels in the future.
