Creating storm in the ‘mobile ecosystem’, Pune based entrepreneur, Aditya Kulkarni is bringing mobile, social media and cloud together through MobiPrimo. Swati Maheshwari catches up with him to find out more exclusively for YourStory.inTell us about MobiPrimo.
We started MobiPrimo Technologies in Feb 2010. Samir(CEO at MobiPrimo) & I (CTO at MobiPrimo) started MobiPrimo with exclusive focus on mobile ecosystem. In the last 18 months, MobiPrimo has established partnerships with multiple tier-1 players in OEM, media and advertising space. MobiPrimo has launched its product, fbData, just about a month ago. fbData is a social collaboration platform that provides data collaboration service by combining mobile, social and cloud domains.
How do you see ‘mobility ecosystem’ in India evolve?
A decade ago, processing power, battery life, storage, network bandwidth, screen resolution were limitations for mobile phones. Today, 1GHz processors, high end screen resolutions, 3G network backbone(4G in selected geographies) make mobile as powerful as how PCs were in the year 2000. In the Indian context, mobile data subscription is 10 times higher than broadband subscription and the gap is widening every day. Browsing for a day on mobile is cheaper than spending an hour in cyber-café. 750 million mobile subscribers and affordable data plans make it a very compelling opportunity for mobile product companies. Very often people relate just mobile applications to mobile ecosystem. But, in reality, services need a solid behind-the-scene infrastructure to support the mobile application for a large number of subscribers. Going further, analytics is key component to improve user experience for mobile applications as well as to grow subscriber base. MobiPrimo takes pride in providing a complete solution for the mobile ecosystem and not limiting the focus only to mobile applications.Tell us about MobiPrimo's cloud services.
Since mobile phones are limited in storage as well as computing power, mobile and cloud make a very interesting proposition. MobiPrimo offers fbData, a cloud based collaboration platform for any connected device such as computer, tablet or mobile. fbData empowers its users to back up and access their data from anywhere, even share it selectively on social media. MobiPrimo is launching another product TextUp™ during SiliconIndia Mobile Application conference on Aug 20, 2011 in Delhi.
Tell us a little about the market size that you are trying to capture.
All 3 domains(mobile, cloud and social media) that MobiPrimo is focused on are already big and experiencing growth like never before. Mobile has now essentially become the sixth sensory organ for most of us. Growth will be further boosted by mobility offerings like iPad. Social networking is hugely popular in specific age groups, for example, Facebook for age 15-30 years (750 million users), LinkedIn for age 25-50 years (100 million users), etc. Promisingly, quite a few companies are now working on improving the current social networks and its features. As far as Cloud is concerned, over the next five years, cloud services will expand at a compound annual growth rate(CAGR) of 27.6 percent from $21.5 billion in 2010 to $72.9 billion in 2015.
Are you looking at fundraising?
MobiPrimo is a self funded company and well set to continue on the product road-map. We will look out for venture capital during the growth phase in near future.
What are your expansion plans?
Our overall focus will be technology innovation with clear benefit using cloud, mobility, big data & search technologies. We will be actively pushing the white label solutions in the social collaboration vertical. We will also ensure that the platform is readily available for developers. We intend to partner for integration with third party solutions, conforming to the three elements of security, reliability and scalability.
