72 Startups From 14 Countries Showcased Their Products at DEMOAsia2012
DEMO Asia 2012 drew to a close today. For the first time the DEMO brand of conferences came to Asia.
DEMO Asia was held between 29th February and 2nd March at the Matrix@Biopolis, Singapore. This year saw 72 startups from 14 countries either launch their products or pitch their ideas. The live audience at the venue comprised of eminent investors, innovators and industry professionals.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of DEMO Asia on the 1st of March, Chairman of Sphere Exhibit, Robin Hu said, “Today’s turnout bodes well for DEMO Asia. We have amassed over 30 speakers and 72 start-ups from 14 countries in the Asia Pacific region and as far as Canada. Over the next two days, we can look forward to stimulating pitches and presentations as well as engaging discussions and networking sessions.”
In the last 20 years the DEMO family has earned a reputation for consistently identifying innovative ideas that are most likely to disrupt the markets they serve. Some of the products that DEMO has helped in getting launched and which have now become prominent brands are Adobe Acrobat, Sun Microsystems’ Java, Netscape, Salesforce.com, etc.
This year’s Demo Gurus are FIETT, DropMyEmail, Sofshell, PixTelz and Flexiroam.
The People’s Choice Award went to Hoiio. Hoiio is a mobile application that provides cost-effective communication solutions to mobile device. Hoiio is a Singapore based startup. The application offers competitive prices for overseas calls at telecom-grade voice quality.

FIETT (Fun in Ecological Tech Textile) - Singapore
FIETT specializes in the production and sale of tech textile goods that are also eco-friendly. The company was founded in August 2011. ISGLOVESTM, touch screen snow mittens, was FIETT’s first foray into the market. It helped in optimizing use of touchscreen gadgets outdoors during winter.
DropMyEmail - Singapore
DropMyEmail allows users to backup their emails automatically and easily. This free service was founded in 2011 by John Fearon as he needed a way to backup his emails.
Flexiroam – Malaysia
Flexiroam allows users to make and receive international roaming calls on your mobile free of cost or at a flat rate per day, while you are travelling overseas.
PixTelz - Singapore
PixTelz offers a video chat service called CuteChat. It adds a fun element to video chatting by allowing users to change backgrounds while chatting. All one needs is a laptop, webcam and access to internet.
Sofshell - Singapore
Sofshell makes cases for gadgets like iPhone and iPad. These cases are basically protective shells and can prevent damages to the device.
