MyOrangeSlate: Teacher-Student Duo Come Together to Provide QualityTutoring Material
Hasmukh Agrawal, after his MBA at XLRI- Jamshedpur, trudged his way through a corporate life for 10 years before deciding to follow his heart and teach. He loved mathematics and having been through the rigors of preparing for an MBA in India, decided to open up FuturiSM, a coaching institute for competitive exams in Surat, Gujarat.Hasmukh has been running this venture successfully with multiple centres across the city with a very high conversion rate (Every fourth student at FuturiSM gets a call from IIM, average GRE score of 309 in new pattern). Along the way, he made some long lasting relationships with his students and as fate would have it, one of his best students, Neeraj Ramnani, having passed out from IIM Indore has now joined forces with Hasmukh to start MyOrangeSlate.
“MyOrangeSlate is an attempt to take excellent training for competitive exams to every part of country.” says Hasmukh. FuturiSM has continuously observed success over the past decade in terms of the number of calls and conversions. “MyOrangeSlate would cater this proven teaching methodology, established systems to larger audience through technology. It combines classroom experience, with flexibility afforded by technology. Interactive features not just between students and trainer, but also between students make learning retentive; whereas video based solutions to test questions put learning in right context.” He adds about the offering.
His efforts to expand widely had failed with Futurism but with Neeraj coming on board, they plan to succeed with MyOrangeSlate. Neeraj’s marketing prowess and experience with eCommerce is what they’re betting on to propel MyOrangeSlate.
Talking about the content that MyOrangeSlate will provide, Hasmukh says, “FutruiSM already has highly relevant content for various competitive exams developed in-house. Various calculation techniques, creative problem solving approaches and scientific approaches to verbal ability have all been developed in-house. We shall be digitizing this content in form of videos; the process for which has already started. Students aspiring to CAT-2012 to be held in October-November shall have access to full course.”
Being based out of Surat, a Tier-2 city, achieving national prominence is going to be a problem. “We have designed a promotion plan based on SEO, online promotion, viral marketing, and project based assignments to aspiring students. Extensive promotion for MOS is already under way. Marketing plan is largely based on engaging students in a dialogue, rather than bombarding them with unsolicited mails and messages.” says Neeraj.
MyOrangeSlate plans to take it global with GMAT and GRE preparatory programs. “The talent in this industry is scarce which puts tremendous pressure on existing manpower at MyOrangeSlate” says Hasmukh. “But with the response we’re seeing, we are optimistic about the future” he concludes.
