“There are many Market Players, but we are not competing with any one. The USP is to provide all information about Mumbai on the internet, which will make the life of people in Mumbai easy. We target to start with a website for all the metros inIndia,” says Founder Tanmay Sasvadkar.
Starting up:
TheMumbaiCity.com was started in a small room cum office with two writers Mitosh Mora and Supriya Bandekar, in guidance of Prateek Panchal who was deeply involved in the development of the website. With the good response the website received, they have now opened an office in Mumbai and are a team of 7 that comprises 5 passionate writers and an SEO and design team. It currently has no marketing team but plans to have one in place soon. The business idea of TheMumbaicity.com was conceptualized by Tanmay Sasvadkar, an Engineering Graduate having plans to have something of his own on the internet, which drove him to start off with tiny blogs, websites and many more internet related applications. The other thing at the back of his mind was to deliver something to the country. That is why he started websites on different cities. He firstly started with www.TheIndoreCity.com, which was brought into existence during his graduation days then launched www.TheMumbaiCity.com. After this, they launched www.ThePuneCity.com, which is the current project they are working on.
There is no official investor associated with TheMumbaiCity. All the capital invested was from personal savings.
“Our greatest initial challenge was funds, as there was no investor associated with us, which landed us into big problems from the start; still we stuck with the idea. Getting resources was an issue, but support from the team was exceptional, which hardly made us realize that we are at a lack of resources. There was help from friends during tough times and an overwhelming support from Varun Rajwade, who is still associated with TheMumbaiCity and is helping us get technically stronger. Many of the VCs we’ve pitched to, have shown interest in the project now,” Tanmay concludes.
