The online portals for jobs and matrimonial are buzzing with activity. According to an ‘Internet Economy Watch’ data released a couple of days ago, online recruitment portals have seen a massive upswing witnessing an increase of 0.23 million. The number stands at 2.05 million uploads in April 2012 as compared to April 2011.

The number of profile uploads on matrimonial sites has increased to 2.74 million during April 2012 from 1.35 million in April 2011. The IAMAI report gathers data from 4 recruitment sites and 29 matrimonial sites.

Apart from the Naukris and Monsters, the behemoths of the Indian Online Recruitment Industry, a bunch of new portals are coming up that are trying to change the hiring scenario. There some niche recruitment portals like IIMJobs which are coming up. Also, startups like RecruiterBox, InterviewStreet and LookBeyondResumes are veering away from the tradition. Same is the case with Matrimonial sites; Bharat Matrimony was a definite game changer but new entrants are trying out different models to remove the stigma associated with online dating; check out the likes of TwoMangoes and MyMitra.

Compared to April 2011, April 2012 witnessed an exponential growth in the domain of e-tailing of branded apparels & footwear, e-ticketing, and profile uploads on matrimonial sites. However, jewellery, designer labels, resume uploads witnessed incremental rise. The data indicates that there is a huge spurt in e-tailing of branded apparels with sites registering 5 million visits in the month of April, this year as compared to 2.54 visits in April 2011. The data again is based on absolute numbers captured from 15 e-commerce sites.

E-ticketing continues to grow with irctc.com recording 5.56 million bookings in April, 2012 as compared to 2.26 million bookings in April 2011. Airlines recorded 1.92 million bookings in April 2012, as compared to 1.01 million bookings in April 2011. The data for online travel is based on absolute numbers captured from nine websites.

We, at Yourstory can vouch for this growth as our own job-portal (startup jobs) is also generating some fantastic traction.
