Why is Social Entrepreneurship a Perfect Fit for Students?

What makes human beings so different from animals is their conscience or their ability to discern right from wrong. The point I am trying to make here is that from the time we are born till the present, I am pretty sure that we all must have thought to a certain point about common place issues like poverty, corruption, population, politics, etc. We must have also been a part of discussions on these issues and sadly most of them ended with no definite inferences. So here we were four friends Archit, Aayush, Dheeraj and I who would have similar never ending discussions on these issues. We felt that to make a positive change we need to do something different and that’s how IgnitedV was born. When it comes to starting our own venture as students, we generally succumb to peer pressure and consider it too early to start something on our own. Well, here lies the greatness of social entrepreneurship, it is a zero competition market where you not only get the respect and satisfaction but much needed free help. So for a student this is the icing on the cake, you not only evolve as a person but it gives you the chance to work in real life situations and develop true leadership qualities bringing with it immense satisfaction. Still, one myth resides deep within us, that the social sector start up is not for profit which is not true. The biggest example being ‘Amul’ catering to the needs of milkmen and ‘Lifebuoy’ which has spread hygiene in the homes of the ones at the bottom of the pyramid.
Interestingly, not even a year has passed since IgnitedV’s inception but it has already been a life changing journey for all the team members. It has been such an amazing experience, you realise that if you are leading a team, you have to be the person who has to continuously motivate your team mates and yourself, your decision really counts, there are times that even after flawless planning some mishap happens and you have to stay calm and that is when you transform into a disaster management expert. Lastly, you learn how effective team work can be, you have team mates who have had different experiences which makes the learning process much more fun. So for people, who are willing to explore the unexplored, want to bring a change, and be a real life hero then go for social entrepreneurship.
