Students join Alice in Wonderland at St.Joseph's Commerce College

Breaking the usually serious tone of management fests, BBM students of St.Joseph’s Commerce College, Bangalore had their management fest, Virtuoso on August 30 and 31, 2012 themed – Alice in Wonderland. The idea was to ask participants to broaden their horizons going beyond the mundane details of things. “We wanted our participants to connect with all the colours and bring out the creativity in their inner child,” explains Radhika, a final year BBM student at St.Joseph’s Commerce College, Bangalore.

The fest received registrations from 17 colleges out of which 10 teams including St.Joseph’s Evening College, Saraswat College, Goa, Bhavans College, Hyderabad, KLE College, Belgaum, Christ University, Banaglore, Jain University, Jayanagar, Jain University, CMS, Mount Carmel College, Bangalore, Christu Jayanti College and Alliance Business Academy qualified for the final rounds of the fest. Each team had 13 participants.The fest included events like the Best Manger, Mad hatter (Marketing), White Rabbit (Human Resource), Door Mouse (Finance),The Chesire Cat (Entrepreneurship event), Keyhole (Quiz) and Red Queen Rising (Public Relations). Interestingly, students who were an expert at everything were sent to participate in the Best Manger (with its corporate touch) while students who knew something of everything were asked to participate in the entrepreneurship event.

The participants in the entrepreneurship event were offered Rs.100 as seed fund using which the participants were required to raise more in just 2 hours. In the next round, students had to make a significant change using the raised in one of the local businesses around St.Joseph’s College. There was also an overnight plan round where the participants had to come with a business plan for a business that functioned only at night. In all, the participants were required to work on self-generated material rather than readymade data.


Make A Difference (MAD) that works in schools, was the social sponsor for the event. The students of St.Joseph’s Commerce College had organized a fun activity at St.Patrick’s School where MAD teaches the kids.
