Panel Talk on Green Buildings in India; Conducted by TiE (CEE-SIG)

Panel Talk on Green Buildings in India; Conducted by TiE (CEE-SIG)

Tuesday October 09, 2012 , 2 min Read

The TiE Mumbai Clean Energy and Environment Special Interest Group (CEE-SIG) is conducting a panel talk on Green Buildings. Green buildings are one of the fastest growing segments in the CEE space.

A green building is one that uses less water, optimizes energy efficiency, conserves natural resources, generates less waste and provides healthier spaces for occupants, as compared to a conventional building. With a modest beginning of 20,000 sq.ft. green built-up area in the country in the year 2003, today

more than 1,400 registered green buildings projects with a built-up area of 1 Billion sq. ft are being constructed all over India. India ranks no. 2 with one Billion sq. ft. of green building footprint. U.S. is on the top of the list with about 6 Billion sq.ft. Currently, the Green Building market is growing at a rate of 30-35% per year. This panel discussion is being organised in association with CII IGBC.The topics in the panel discussion will include Green Building Marketability, Green Building Economics, Green Building Experience, Green Building Returns, Green Building Tax Incentives and Green Building Opportunities. The panel consists of environmentalists and individuals from the real estate and hotel industry, hoping to provide some insights into the common ground between the environmentalists ideals and current happenings in the real estate industry.

"Since the green building market is an emerging market, even developers of green buildings are not fully aware of the best choice. Therefore the major challenge for entrepreneurs in the green building segment, is to educate consumers about the right products and services. As the market matures, the ability of entrepreneurs to provide sustainable value to consumers and scale up at a pan India level will separate the best from the rest of the pack," said Jaideep Saptarshi Executive Director Vermigold Ecotech Pvt Ltd.
