Vadodara Gets Another Startup; Compare My Ticket, A Meta Search Engine for Travel Sites
Talking about his entrepreneurial journey, Preet Dave, Co-Founder, Compare My Ticket says that, “Since childhood I wanted to be entrepreneur. Once in a fun-fair at my school I had set up a stall of games. From then my mind used to see all the business with a profit-loss calculation. If I see any business my mind starts doing calculations about its viability. After I finished college, campus selection with a good salary stole my dream. Also keeping touch with an entrepreneur friend keeps the flame burning.”
“I just got married this February (2012). My wife was working as Computer Admin at a school before marriage. After marriage she had to change city and had to come to Vadodara. As she was having basic knowledge because of her education (PGDCA), I thought about putting her knowledge to use. I shared my idea with her, and she gave shape to it. Right now my wife updates and maintains the site with the help of an IT company,” adds Preet.
Preet shares the struggle he put after convincing the portals for this idea and says, “It was very difficult to approach different travel agencies and convince them with our idea. Many straightly denied. But our intention was to give best to user, we made linking through internet. Also technically it was difficult to integrate all searches in single click as all the portals have different coding, but my smart IT team made it work.”
He goes on to share insights about operating from a Tier 2 city like Vadodara, “I lived in Gurgaon for 5 years. Many times I think that if I had launched in Gurgaon/Bangalore, I could made it popular very easily. For the technical part, great coders are present in Tier 2 cities, but the metros provide a different platform altogether. This includes easy access to mentors and investors.”
On a concluding note, Preet talks about the challenges he faces, “There are many global players in this field. Some of them have started operations in India; these players are a big challenge. We are trying to give something different and unique. The Coupon Code section assists in our endeavor.”
