[YS TV] Amrit Tulya - Working to Give Clean Drinking Water to Everyone
Giving access to clean drinking water for everyone, everywhere, is a huge movement, and an issue that many organizations are working to solve. According to the World Health Organization, “Around 1.1 billion people globally do not have access to improved water supply sources whereas 2.4 billion people do not have access to any type of improved sanitation facility. About 2 million people die every year due to diarrheal diseases, most of them are children less than 5 years of age.” [1]
Often times even, the poor have to pay more for water than the rich people in the same region. Amrit Tulya is stepping in and working to solve the problem of access to drinking water in the rural areas. Amrit Tulya, with Himanshu Sharma at the helm is using reverse osmosis in combination with a solar unit to combat undrinkable water. Their machine is a complete stand-alone unit and in order to have a scalable process have ensured very low maintenance costs so that their machines can be installed anywhere. They have achieved the economics with their technology at the lower scale they use advanced technology, target market, and size of the product to establish their niche in the market.
Sharma explains, “It’s not about doing social entrepreneurship or only having donations or preforming philanthropic acts. It’s about my bit to the society. You should ask why not to be a social venture!”
