Ex-Buytheprice CTO launches SayShaadi: A One Stop Wedding Destination

Marriages are a huge affair for an Indian family. Most of the families splurge heavily when it comes to marriages and any offering which can make the event more memorable, organized or for that matter even more showy, is latched on to. And the advent of internet brought along with it a lot of ways to add both value and glam to this institution of marriages.

One such startup joining the bandwagon is SayShaadi that is into the business of simplifying the entire process of arranging for a marriage.

Nithin Baalay, a Computer Science engineering graduate from CBIT, Hyderabad and a Masters holder from Columbia University realized the strain a family goes through while arranging for a wedding after returning from US in 2010 and this set him working.

He had started working as the CTO at Buytheprice.com (now acquired by Tradus) but had the problem always on his mind. He could not find a great platform which helped the Indian wedding industry and post two years of extensive research, SayShaadi has now been launched.

SayShaadi can be described as a wedding professional network as they help the to-be-wed couples and their families to easily and efficiently manage everything leading up to the big day. They help to make the whole process of planning hassle-free and provide a wedding beyond the ordinary. With the refined filters it is easy not just to find vendors but also compare them, check their past work or show them something you saw at some other wedding which you liked and ask them if they can recreate that.

Nithin started off building the tech platform alone and the sales team came on board later which helped singing up vendors. Suhruda, the unreal project manager forms the backbone of the website with an eye for attraction and attention to detail.  Explaining the concept to the vendors was a challenge as they are often taken as a matrimonial site. They believe to have enough traction now and are open in Hyderabad currently.

There are other players like 7vachan and Weddings9 in the wedding planning space but we’re far from seeing a clear winner. SaySahaadi wants to create an online marketing place where clients can shop the traditional way and they have some engaging features on the site like: smart filter options vendor search in your city, informative vendor profiles, an inspirational gallery to draw ideas, provide a basic checklist and songs etc.
