Going beyond MOOC, NovoED brings entrepreneurship education from Babson College online for the global audience

Going beyond MOOC, NovoED brings entrepreneurship education from Babson College online for the global audience

Friday August 16, 2013 , 2 min Read

First of all, what is MOOC? It stands for Massively Open Online Courses where students can learn online and earn degrees from universities (and we've argued why it's still to early for India). MOOC has been the talk of the town when it comes to education and we've seen players like Udacity and Coursear raise monstrous amount of funding.

NovoED
Now, the biggest problem with MOOC is the attrition. It has been observed that only 7% of the people signing up for the courses end up completing it. And to tackle this problem, NovoED came into existence. NovoED is a Stanford initiative to offer a MOOC platform that focuses on collaboration and project and team-based learning.

In a recent development, NovoED has started a new course in entrepreneurship from leading institutions in the world including the Babson College which is considered to be the best in the league for entrepreneurship. With this program, students around the world will have access to a low or no cost entrepreneurship curriculum in an online environment where they can create and develop their ideas in collaboration with teammates and mentors.

“Entrepreneurship education is the engine of change needed to drive global economies forward,” said Amin Saberi, co-founder and chief executive officer, NovoED. “With this new curriculum, NovoED is empowering students anywhere to create solutions that benefit their own communities. We are proud to work with such esteemed institutions to take advantage of the social web so students can change their worlds.”

The initial courses cover topics including how to start and grow a venture, how to secure funding and how to be a CEO, and will expand to become a rigorous entrepreneurship curriculum at scale. NovoED’s technology connects students with each other around the course content, enabling them to explore new solutions to social, environmental and business challenges together.
