Songs Entrepreneurs Listen To #SongsThatInspire
Entrepreneurship is a lonely journey and music is probably one of the biggest support system to take an entrepreneur through. Humans associate with music and there are many who associate key points in their lives with songs. The feeling can be anything- happiness, sadness, pumped up, nostalgia or euphoria- there’s a song for every emotion.
When we talk specifically about entrepreneurs; songs about perseverance, coming back, and pumped up notes strike a chord. Nearing Independence Day, we went around asking entrepreneurs about the songs that remind them about the good times, the songs that remind them about the best times and we got some amazing responses.
We also intend to kickstart a Twitter tag about #SongsThatInspire you as an entrepreneur. This is a fun campaign and also a chance to get a free tickets for the Pune TechSparks (winners will be informed on Twitter). Just tweet your favourite song with why and #SongsThatInspire
1) To start off with, we have tubthumping also known as “I get knocked Down but I get up again” by Chumbawamba, a favourite of YourStory.in founder, Shradha Sharma. This shall surely set the mood rolling:
We then went to a couple of entrepreneurs in the music space and here’s what they had to say,
2) Brijesh Bhardwaj, Founder, TunePatrol
In Motion - by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross
“It's the song that plays in the background when Zuckerberg is hacking into the Harvard servers to make Facemash. The song's beats perfectly represent the feeling of something big being set in motion and is now gaining speed,” says Brijesh about the song.
3) Gaurav, Founder, Musicfellas
Orange Sky- by Alexi Murdoch
Why?
“A beautiful song that soothes me down and puts me in a good mood,” says Gaurav. Life can be hard, full of obstacles. But if you have people you love to share your moments, it seems like an orange sky.
Then we went to a couple of women entrepreneurs to see what they had in store
4) Garima Jain, Belita
Zindagi Milegi na Dobara - All the songs but ‘Ik junoon’ excites her the most -
“The super energetic music and the lyrics kind of relate to the life of an entrepreneur!” says Garima.
5) Koval Bhatia, Founder, A Little Anarky
The cover of The Sprawl by The Arcade Fire
"The song because it probably speaks to everyone who ever wanted to get away from the sprawl. And the video because well, the amazing vibe and camaraderie and sheer awesome togetherness of this ratty bunch in this video," says Koval and we wouldn't disagree who makes videos for a living.
6) Tsetan Dolkar, Tibetan i Tech
This young woman runs a technology company from Dharamshala and is a music freak with favourite songs changing as per mood. Her current favourite song goes very well with the spirit of entrepreneurship- 'Carry on' by Fun
After listening to what the women had on their playlist, we went back to some more men
7) Shiladitya Mukhopadhyaya, Rasilant
U2- I still haven't found what I'm looking for
"U2 is one of my all time favourite bands and they've been responsible for my getting through a lot of phases of my life growing up, from girlfriend issues to examination pressures, it's these learnings and memories linked with the songs that I take ahead with me in fighting through my entrepreneur life phase as well," says Shiladitya with a smile.
8) Anand Satyan, Deliverwithme
ACDC- "It's a long way to the top if you wanna rock and roll'
9) Avinash Saxena, Giveter

10) Sampad Swain, Instamojo
We go a bit mellow with John Lennon's Imagine
"Helps me forget today's crap for tomorrow's sense," says Sampad about the song.
11) Manasij Ganguly, Intellocut
Pink Floyd- Money
Manasij has a great association for the song:
1. why entrepreneurs cannot continue in a job:
"Money, so they say
Is the root of all evil
Today
But if you ask for a rise
It's no surprise that they're
Giving none away"
2. And here is the promise of the bright day which keeps all of us returning to work despite it being such a bitchy hard climb:
"Money, it's a gas
Grab that cash with both hands
And make a stash
New car, caviar, four star daydream
Think I'll buy me a football team"
....
