Startup Pulse Hyderabad 2013 - Trends and Insights
Continuing our Startup Pulse 2013 infographics, here’s what the entrepreneurs from the Hyderabad ecosystem think.
Composition:
- B2B Software startups form 31% of the survey respondents
- ~36% of the startups are revenue-generating but only 31% are profit-making
- A relatively low 53% of the startups are leveraging mobile platforms such as Android and iOS for their products and services
- ~30% of the startups are leveraging Amazon Web Services and Google App Enginer for their Cloud requirements
- 60% of all startups had headcount growth plans of 6-20 in the coming 6-12 months
Funding:
- 67% of the startups were bootstrapped and 10% were seed-funded
- 45% of the startups were looking for seed funding and 12% for Series A in the next 6-12 months
- 52% of the startups were undecided on the preferred exit strategy
- 69% of the startups had not pitched to an investor till date
What they felt was missing:
- Ecosystem level – 45% felt that access to good quality talent willing to work in startups was lacking; 31% felt that access to mentors was lacking
- Organisation Capability level – 43% felt that the biggest help needed was in the fund raising area, followed by 38% who felt that they needed help with sales
- Talent level – 33% felt that good sales professionals and 26% felt that good business development professionals were in short supply in the market
Sector insights:
- 71% of Consumer Internet startups had growth plans of 6-10 employees in the next 6-12 months
- 86% of all Consumer Internet startups were bootstrapped, owing to low initial costs for the sector
- 46% of all B2B Software startups felt that they needed help and guidance in fund raising
- 12% of all startups felt that Government Grants to encourage startups and co-working spaces would benefit the overall ecosystem hugely
